  1. Hi there Bilko! many thanks for interest, im afraid this one isn't for sale, it is the very first one i have done, however i will be pouring more items soon, and in the future i will be looking to start selling my silver items, im just very much learning the craft, only been doing it for 3 weeks, so still trying to make things better, i will list stuff for sale on the forum and eBay once im up and running properly, this was just a more of an experimental pour to see what i could do and how sterling worked different from fine grain, thanks and warm regards Matt
  2. I just couldn't help myself, after last night running out of fine silver grain i decided i still needed more of a pouring fix this week, so used sterling silver for the first time, i had some sitting about, melted down some old cruet sets, thimble, etc, i managed to get 250gms and done this. I know you see them out there online but i wanted to have a go myself at a biggish one, came out as a pretty good paperweight or stacker bar as they would sit on top of each other nice because of his feet and head sticking up, trouble is now ive done it i want to pour more now! has not really helped my addiction, ive decided to call it the "Almost Perfect Hibernation" bar! still need more grain or sterling now........
  3. Thank you again! yeah both my favs out of this batch also, tricky to do, strike rate low on them to get them looking right, but worth the time doing the casting sand to get them right, when they work look cool, just such a great thing to do, aggravating hobby though, i think i have a great impression and set up and when poured doest come out, its very much keep trying until you get the right effect your looking for, thank God i can re melt!
  4. Thank you so much SidS, they are tough to do, my strike rate was 3 out of 12 came out of those, but worth the effort i do like them little crest rounds
  5. Man I love this hobby, however its sad I run out of silver so quick! I need to save more cash to get more grain ASAP! expensive hobby, I'm sure golf would be cheaper! This afternoon / this evening knocked up two English Armorial Crest Livery type rounds, a little bar with ripples, a similar heart and a large Art Deco design circular round with train and ocean liner, love that big one, took a few goes but come out ok in the end!
  6. hahahahahah, im guessing its some Roman classical farmyard game
  7. Yes many thanks Stefffana, thank you for your kind words, i did indeed yesterday morning register with the Birmingham Assay Office, so hopefully in a couple of weeks i can get a few things hallmarked and see if i can find some peeps to buy a few bits!
  8. what gets me is that there is a bid!
  9. Thank You DThing, i was very pleased with those, wasn't too sure how they would look, but came out really well, was a pain to do the set up as i had to do quite a few impressions until i got the right look, but great as they are unique to the tree bark, i got a good fossilised chunk i used, probably millions of years old, so was nice to use it for something rather than it just sitting on the shelf. Hopefully will do more experiments when i get more silver grain! although its getting expensive may have to try and get some money back by selling a few!
  10. Hi there, They maybe H E & Co Hawksworth, Eyre & Co look like silver plated from the photos, they made items in both sterling silver and plate, hope this helps? cheers Matt
  11. Hi there! this is a good website for marks, might help? https://www.silvercollection.it/SILVERPLATEHALLMARKSJJ.html regards Matt
  12. Hi all! I couldn't resist the temptation and ended up purchasing some more fine casting grain this morning. It was just sitting on my shelf, calling out to me, so I had to go ahead and melt it down tonight. So i thought i would share my evening's fun with you. Silver pouring has become incredibly addictive for me, and this is only my second week! I'll have to make another trip to the refiners ASAP! I wanted to share with you all the bits I created using original antique pieces i own. This time, I attempted another oval grand tour intaglio piece, which turned out even better than before. I also tried my hand at a side profile portrait of an English Georgian gentleman in a round, they have a nice, chunky feel to them. Additionally, I created a small Italian classical figure with goat button round and some bars with a cool fossil petrified tree bark effect. I thought it would be interesting to show you my progress as it might be of interest to some of you. I hope you all had a good evening as well. Cheers, Matt
  13. Monkey, thank you for the message, the bar was done in a little graphite mould, i just copied what i had seen on youtube, very much trying to follow in backyard bullions footsteps, the oval plaque and portrait bust was both done using the delft clay sand stuff, i got a small bag off eBay, i put it in a small metal tub and made the impressions, was tricky to get a good impression, took longer doing that than the pour took, took me about 10 or 11 times pushing it into the sand until i was happy with the result but was worth it, i used original antique pieces dating around 150 - 200 years old to make the impressions so they are pretty much unique to me, i doubt you would find the same thing done as i have the original antique pieces they were taken from. I have only just started last week but it is great fun, i just cant wait to do more, i would advise anyone to give it a try, i think its wonderful!
  14. Thank you for the kind words Fenlander1 , as soon as I get a bit better and the quality is higher I will get some listed here on the forum!
  15. thank you so much! looking forward to posting more soon when i have something interesting to share.
  16. many thanks! looking forward to sharing more once done, and once up and running maybe selling a few if peeps like them! Hello there and many thanks, strapped in and can't wait for it to start!
  17. thank you Stefffana! looking forward to learning more skills and pouring more very soon
  18. Hello, ladies and gentlemen! I am delighted to be joining this vibrant community as a new member. Allow me to introduce myself—my name is Matt, and I have been passionate about all things antique and collectible, including silver, throughout my entire life. In fact, I have dedicated the past three decades of my career to this fascinating field. Over the last six months, I have stumbled upon various YouTube channels, including Backyard Bullion (which is how I discovered this forum). I have eagerly consumed as much content as possible on silver pouring and casting. As I spend nearly eight hours a day working on my computer, I often have these videos playing in the background, soaking up knowledge and inspiration. The more I watched, the more impressed and intrigued I became. I felt an irresistible pull to try silver pouring for myself. It has been an absolute blast and a refreshing change of pace from my regular activities. While I make a living by selling antiques and collectibles online, engaging in something more hands-on and creative has been a much-welcomed diversion from my typical routine. So, taking a leap of faith, I invested in a furnace, metal stamps, liver of sulphur, and fine silver grain. Last week, I finally took the plunge and attempted my first pourings. You can see the images below to get a glimpse of my initial creations. Given my background in antiques, I couldn't resist incorporating some related items. The first oval piece features a study of an early 19th-century Grand Tour intaglio seal with cherubs. The second piece is a study of a late 18th-century religious portrait bust. And, of course, I couldn't forget the obligatory silver bar, which drew inspiration from the remarkable work of Backyard Bullion and other talented members of the Silver Forum. As you can tell, I still have a long way to go in honing my skills, but I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or comments you may have regarding my first pours. If any of you ever come across antique or collectible items you're unsure about, feel free to reach out to me. I'd be more than happy to lend a hand and point you in the right direction if I can. I must express my sheer joy at discovering a forum brimming with people who share the same passion. It is truly a pleasure to be among such like-minded individuals. Cheers and Happy Stacking! Matt
