  6. 🇬🇧⚔️🇿🇼 Rhodesia 1 Pound 1966 – NGC PF66 – With Box! A very attractive example of this rare coin. Packed with history and produced to a tiny mintage of only 5,000 and complete with original box of issue! A rarity. Slabbed and graded by NGC at PF66 with NGC Cert # 6944025-001: https://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/6944025-001/66/ Only 42 coins in this grade and 24 graded finer. These Rhodesia proof gold coins were issued on 11 November 1966 to mark the first anniversary of Rhodesia’s Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI). Formerly known as Southern Rhodesia, this area in southern Africa was a British colony established in 1923 and was comprised of territories of the British South Africa Company (BSAC) which lay south of the Zambezi river. Prior to this the region was informally known as ‘South Zambesia’ until it was annexed by Britain at the behest of Cecil Rhode’s, founder of the BSAC and whom the colony was named after. Rhodesia’s UDI led to a self-governing, sovereign state in the eye’s of its Prime Minister Ian Smith, but to most of the established world it was not recognised as a legitimate state. After an arduous 15 year Bush War over minority rule, political and racial division, and national and international status, Rhodesia was brought to an end and the territory gained official, recognised independence as Zimbabwe on 18 April 1980. All of the Rhodesian proof gold coins were minted in very conservative quantities and are becoming increasingly difficult to source. The general scarcity of these coins was not at all helped by the fact that many of them were melted down at the behest of Robert Mugabe and fashioned into golden bathroom fixtures; perhaps an emblematic embodiment of his contempt for the Rhodesian days… 🏷 Buy It Now - £1,050 GBP / $1,275 USD Ships fully-insured worldwide for reasonable rate! 📦✈️ 🌍 💷 Payment via bank transfer to UK business bank account, Cash App, Wise, cryptocurrency, and PayPal friends and family are all accepted.
