closed The humble thruppence. Some lovely high grade examples and date runs

I have picked out some of the best threepences I have found in bundles as they are too good to scrap. They have their charm in my opinion. All of these have fantastic detail and at least of EF grade, many with beautiful lustre.

Each contain 1.41g of .500 silver.

They were replaced by larger brass 12-sided coins in 1937 and for a few years both coins were produced for circulation side by side until the silver coins were dropped in Britain in 1942. However, the silver coins were still produced up till 1944 for colonial use. 1939, 1942, 1943 and especially 1944 are scarce. 1939 in fact has the lowest mintage from this series but is more commonly found in Britain than either 1942/43 due to geographical differences in distribution.

Prices

1931-1936 - £1.50 each

Circulated 1937 proof (shown in first picture) - £4

1937, 38, 40 and 41 - £1 each

Lower grade 1942 - £4 (1 available)

Lower grade 1943 - £5 (4 available)

Date run 1931-1943 (11 coins, missing 1942): £15

Higher grade older years and other denominations are also available if you are interested

Update: I have acquired a couple of 1944 threepences and more 1943 and 1942s as well.

Scarce coins!

If you are looking for a date run or want these specific coins, please enquire.
