2005 Gold Panda Three versions, Why?

Recommended Posts

I wonder if there are any Panda experts who would know the answer to this

I have been looking and have noticed that there are three different versions of this year 2005 1oz Panda.  See photos

Why is this and is one version worth more than the others.

I notice that the mintage figures are only about 50k  and would this include all three versions.

It is not unusual that the Chinese use the panda design for a year for commemorative coins. i guess it saves time and expense designing another coin.
Here are a couple more examples. There are lots knocking around.

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.
A tyranny relies on propaganda and force. Once the propaganda fails all that's left is force.

Top two have mintages of 40,000 each. Bottom is the "original" panda, not commemorating anything.

No particular numismatic value to any of these. The original panda however is more sought after so priced the same, I'd expect the original to sell first and the others to sell as bullion.

Thank you @sixgun and @arphethean

Buying the original is always the best way to go.

i have both commemorative versions and the original versions. i don't believe the commemorative versions will necessarily sell as bullion. Some are quite collectible - it is on a case by case basis.

i see this coin is for sale on ebay at $100 whilst the plain coin is $40.
