Looks like it, yes. You're never reacting the silver itself just generating aluminium oxide and sulfur at the cost of the silver that's tarnished. 

The takeaway being to avoid storing or handling silver around anything that gives off sulfur gases I guess.

Easiest way to get rid of scum and crud is an ultrasonic. There're very good for cleaning up 50% pre 47 coins. Warm water a drop of Fairy and leave them for X minutes

Hi. I was looking for a good thread and decided to ask here than making new one. I've got a silver bar that starts to tarnish a bit (it was in ziploc bag) and i'm thinking if it's safe to use this aluminium foil and baking soda method? Or perhaps i shouldn't bother and leave it as it is and just change bag for new one? How do you guys think?
