Australia Lunar II Coloured coin set

Recommended Posts

Hello

Could anyone give me an approximate value for a set of Coloured Lunar II in a box. (10,5,2,1,.5 oz)? They are very attractive items but not popular?

I have tried Google eBay and TSF without any success.

Any help would be appreciated

I've bought random coloured lunars in the past and they are beautiful to look at.
Generally I was paying maybe 10-15% over their non-coloured versions but the price was generally down to the specific lunar as some were listed on eBay much higher.
I also bought the Meinemuenzen bespoke lunar II wooden boxes for 0.5oz thru' 10 oz collections to set them off nicely.
Reckon they will passed down to the next generation though as it something to admire rather than flip.
Unfortunately I somehow get the feeling that you might end up having to split the set to get a better price, if you are considering selling, which does seem crazy.

Hello Pete

Thanks again for your thoughts.

I have the bespoke boxes for the five sets which I have. (.Horse, Dog, Monkey ,Goat and Rooster)

The coins were not cheap - I accumulated them one by one and I would be very reluctant to split  them - they do look magnificent.

As you say it will probably be a next generation job!

My recent sales result on the Forum (Rwanda Wildlife Somalia Elephants  Philharmonics etc date runs) were something less than spectacular - perhaps I am greedy!

Thanks again

Frank

Unfortunately in my experience when it's time to sell you can be very disappointed at the lacklustre interest - anywhere - and what people are prepared to pay in comparison to your jubilation at the time of purchase.
I am in the premier league and wear the shirt when it comes to selling great coins and proof sets at a loss and now give a wide berth having learned my lesson the hard way.
I am not sure of the cost of a Buy It Now/ Best Offer listing on eBay that runs into perpetuity, maybe these are for registered business accounts only I don't know.
Some coins and sets seem to fall out of fashion and there are lots of examples I can quote having bought them and later regretted all the effort and enthusiasm at the time.

[ A friend who was a financial advisor in stocks & shares drilled into me that you should never get attached to any shares.
There will come a time when you should part with them and not look at the price after you have sold.
I still look at one in particular that I sold for around £1.50 breaking even after holding 4 years and it shot up to £57 the following week so "bollocks". ]

Same goes for coins and sets - you just never know and it will be interesting to see, in a couple of years, the prices of Luna / Lion and Three Graces that went in to orbit.
