This arrived today that I won in an auction, a 1941 dated Netherlands East Indies 1/10 Gulden silver coin, until the Netherlands were overrun by the Nazi's in WW2 their coins were minted in house, during the war various mints in the USA made them for them, this coin was made by the Philadelphia mint and was made from .720 silver , 41 million were made that year by them and 58 million by the San Francisco mint that year alone, this is a tiny coin as seen next to the modern 5p.
Its a shame that the photo's do not show the lustre on both these coins, what little shows in pictures is just a bright streak that goes across them.

This is a fairly easy to find coin but most I see seem to be well circulated condition, this is a 1938 Dated Swedish 25 Ore silver coin, made from .600 silver, this coin was made by three different mints all having their own designs on the coins, two were made of silver the other was nickel and the dates of some overlap so its worth checking before buying to make sure you get the one you want, this coin of this design had a very long life without change, being made on and off yearly from 1910 to 1941,  3.6 million being minted in 1938 by this mint.

And finally a size comparison with a modern tiny UK 5p

Nah this coins long before the communist coup that happened after WW2, I think this coin is celebrating some sort of new republic, we need a Czech collector, there is nothing in any of my books or on Numista about it

Won this beauty in an auction, I really like the design of both sides of the coin, its a 1931 dated Czechoslovakian 10 Korun made of 70% silver, I think the reverse shows republica (the woman) tending to a Lime Tree (or Linden Tree as its sometimes known) which was the national emblem of Czechoslovakia and the wood from it was used for painting of Christian icons on.
Does anyone know what it is she is sat on especially the thing bottom left which looks like and hammer and something else ?
This coin was minted for 4 years only and is a little bit larger than a UK £2 coin.
    Mintage figures below
    1930   4,949,000
    1931   6,689,000
    1932   11,447,500
    1933   915,000

lol I am still writing up what I want from the book to make a wish list,  so far there is 80 coins I am after and I have 12, but I am only a third through the book , my fun part is finding them in my OCD proof condition, I am not sending them off for grading so beauty is in the eye of the beholder for me, but I do want them to look nice, clean and as close to unc as possible, I am not collecting every mintmark version either (yet) so that might save me trying to find 1000's of extra coins,

Some stunning old coins here in the last couple of posts, thanks so much for sharing them,  having been saving for a monster bar for the last couple of years I decided to fill the gap in the time waiting by collecting silver coins in as close to UNC condition as I can from the period 1930 -  1945 ,  the standard catalogue of world coins 1901 - 2000 book/bible has been a godsend in helping with this especially in seeing how huge some coins are like the 2.5 Guldens are, I hope they make capsules big enough for them lol

Yeah the Straights settlements were before it was just Malaya, late 1800's I think, then after these I think it was Malaya and Borneo with Elizabeth's head on the coins, there is a couple of British colonial coins of this era and before that had a similar layout.

Sorry straights Settlements coins were going into the late 1920's from what I have seen, they must be what they used pre- WW2 and back.

This arrived in the post today, a British Malaya 20 Cents coin, dated 1943, the coin was only minted in three years, 1939, 1943 and 1945.
This design of coin was first minted in 1939 in .750 silver, 8 million were produced,
in 1943 the silver content was reduced to .500 and only 5 million were minted,
the last year for the silver coins was 1945 with 8 million minted,  what gets me is that the 20 Cents was the highest denomination that country had, was it a poor country back then ?  postwar there was a 50 Cents coin and after the country became part of Malaysia dollars appeared.
Thats all the silver Malaya coins I wanted now, got a few more coins I am waiting for and bidding on, will have to see how they do.

I got this tiny beauty in an auction today for only £1.25 exc p+p, its a Dutch 10 Cents, 1944 dated, made of 64% silver, these coins were made for the Dutch colonies during WW2 by the USA in various mints, the mint that made this one, the Philidephia Mint (a P and Acorn privvy) was by far the most numerous with a huge 120 million being minted in that year.
As always pictures never seem to do my coins justice, sorry for the bits of pollen on my workbench, we have a forest at the bottom of the garden and its forever shedding into workshop.

Compared to a modern 5 pence, now officially my smallest coin in the stack

Picked up three coins in auctions very cheaply, there is some incredible bargains to be had if you spend a bit of time searching, its seems just the .999 bullion coins and bars that seem to be going through the roof price wise.
    From left to right
1939 dated Malaya 10 Cents,  these were made from .750 silver until 1941 when they were made from .500 , 10 million were minted in 1939 and 17 million in 1941 of this coin type.
1945 dated British 6 pence,  these were made of .500 silver and a whopping 40 million were minted this year alone.
1945 dated British 1 Shilling English version, these were also made of .500 silver, there was two types of this coin made, an English and Scottish with different obv,  15 million were minted of this coin this year

Some good news for me, postie finally delivered some items I had been waiting for (still got a lot to come yet), got some capsules for my Malaya silver 5 Cents, got the next size up so that they will also fit the silver 3 pence I want to get eventually,
Also got this really nice .640 silver Curacao/Netherlands 1/4 Gulden these coins were minted at the Denver mint in the USA (no wonder they look so nice) , they were only minted in 1944 and 1947  with 1.5 million being made in 1944, a shout out to @dicker  , thanks for helping me on this one.

I suppose I could make a new one in the coins section as there might be a mix of different coins, sometimes I look for the hard to spot problems and miss the obvious and vice versa and more eyes and experience would help me a little.

I dont want to take over what should be a happy topic with doom and gloom so please move this to the correct place if you need to mods,
A question for anyone, is there an area on this forum where I can put pics of coins to get other members opinions on them, ones I am not sure about, I am only collecting AUNC/ UNC  quality coins, and not sending them for grading or anything like that.

usually they look better after they have been cleaned   ,  or do you mean what ever residue was left on them has reacted with the sealed plastic sleeve it was in as I am starting to think after looking at @daca  comparisons I think it is possibly the same coin, but if its been stored after cleaning in one of those PVC sleeves for quite a while after the pics were taken and had silver dip or other residue still on it, then that could make it go black like it has surely ?

Cheers mate they do look very similiar, could these defects be common to all made of that year ?,  could the coin been put in the sleeve with greasy hands and the plastic sleeve marked it ?  , also there is a mark on the original above the 10pm area above the S, that was absent from the one I recieved ?

Yeah I have mate, I angled that coin every which way, to see if the black marks disappeared, they did not,  I have a Nikon microscope which I put it under and they were definitely different coins

I viewed them closer than these pics show and there was major differences, unless there was a bit of photoshoppery, but why bother on a common and not expensive coin, I dont think they are the same coin, sorry guys

I had it every position in the karma sutra and under high magnification, but I cannot see any similarity, even minor faults from the one I bought are absent on the coin sent to me

On Friday I bought this from a 100% feedback seller on ebay, with many 1000's of feedback,

This arrived instead, and yes the coin pictured was the one for sale, not a generic image

Needless to say I wasnt very happy, having to travel in the car to the post office and put my health at risk,  especially when all I got was a, 'return it for a refund', no apology or anything, I dont think I will be using them again, will see if I get my refund including postage now without quibble,
Or am I wrong and it is the same coin ??

Well this cheered me up a bit among all the doom and gloom in the world at the moment, and it does not take much these days.
This is my British Malaya 5 Cents coin 1945 dated, the photos I took do not do it justice, its a really nice shiny coin but to show the features off I had to angle it a bit away from the light.
These coins were made of 75% silver until 1941 when they started to be made of 50% silver, the coins were made at the Royal Mint in London and the Bombay Mint in India, ones made in India are far rarer and are distinguished by a capital i underneath the word CENTS on the obv.
Production for my coin in 1945 only was a whopping 8.8 million (India mint 4.6 million) , such a lot of coins for what was in essence a colony, I think coin production stopped in 1945, and started up again in 1948 when the coins no longer contained any silver.

Its tiny and cute, smaller and thinner than a modern 5p
