SILVERFINGER got a reaction from Gruff in Today I Received.....
Won quite a few silver coins in auctions recently 3 of 5 of them finally arrived today.
This is a French 10 Francs coin made of .680 silver, 1932 dated, this design was made (from silver only) from 1929 to 1939, with 40,387,667 million being minted in 1932 alone, this coin looks AU/UNC condition with most of its original lustre.
The translation of the reverse is as follows
Liberty
Equality
Fraternity
Next is a British India 1/2 Rupee, made of .500 silver, 1943 dated, this coin was made in huge numbers and there is many different variations even for one years production, there was three types of this coin made by the Bombay Mint in 1943 (Proof, small edge teeth and large edge teeth, which mine is the large edge teeth) and two made by the Lahore Mint, Bombay Mint has a small dot underneath the flower at the bottom of the reverse of the coin, the Lahore Mint has an L there instead, production was as follows for the two mints that year alone.
Trying to find even an AU grade of one of these coins has been a challenge, most seem to have been well used.
Bombay 90,400,000 million
Lahore 9,000,000 million
And finally got this Swedish 2 Kronor coin, made from .800 silver, 1936 dated, this coin had a very long but low yearly production life (for a circulating coin), King Gustav V not changing his portrait on the coins for decades, this design was made from 1910 to 1940, with 491,296 made in 1936, not my largest coin but now my heaviest at 15g
Quite a lot of lustre on this coin but the pictures don't show it as usual.
Text on the back reads,
With the people for the Fatherland

What about the Rolf 'Pedo' Harris one they brought out, do you have that in your collection
I do like the one above in 'aboriginal' style.

I have been after one of these for ages after seeing so many on here, there is plenty around in good condition due to the high mintages I think, but I always seemed to get outbid, now officially the largest coin in my stack (until I get one of my Christmas presents that is).
This style of Mexican 1 Peso coin came out in 1920, millions were minted most years until 1945, all these coins were struck from .720 silver, one thing I really like is the fact that the purity is on the coin itself much like a modern bullion coin.
Around the sides of the coin is the writing INDEPENDENCIA Y LIBERTAD (Independence and liberty), I can see now why so many collectors love these and the later Libertads, its one of my favourites now.
Production for this coin was 43,920,000 in 1933 alone.
Tried to show some of the lustre on this coin, which this has lots.

Waiting for what I hope will be a nice UNC grade 1933 dated 1 Peso one of these, I really like them and the fact they have the silver content on the coins.

This is my recent pickup, an Australian 1943 dated Sixpence, minted from .925 silver at the Denver mint in the USA, featuring King George VI on the obverse and the Australian coat of arms of a kangaroo and emu.
Australia minted all their silver coins from the high grade of .925 until 1946 when it dropped to .500, silver still being used until 1963 when they stopped using the UK £ and went to the AUS $, the high grade of silver might account why its hard to find unworn coins from the pre 1945 era with them being quite soft.
Three mints manufactured these coins every year from 1938 to 1945, these were, Melbourne in Australia (no mint mark), Denver in the USA (D mint mark) and San Francisco in the USA (S mint mark).
The production figures for the two (Australia didn't make any this year) mints in 1943 alone were,
1943 D, 8,000,000
1943 S, 4,000,000

Yeah I been 'fighting with the light' trying to get decent pictures showing lustre on coins, nothing seems as good as the human eye though.

Won this date run of lovely condition Netherlands 25 Cents .640 silver coins, I only wanted one example of this coin but I won all of these for a very low bid, going to keep one (1940) and sell the other two (of which my boss wants first dibs next time I see her).
1941 was the last year that the Netherlands minted their own silver coins when the nazis invaded and stripped the country of anything of value, after this date the only silver Dutch coins were minted by various mints in the USA.
Production figures for the three coins are as follows
1939, 4,000,000
1940, 9,000,000
1941, 40,000,000

This arrived today after what seemed an age in royal snails hands,
Its a Uruguay 20 Centismos coin made in 1942 out of .720 silver.
This coin was minted one year only in 1942 along with a 1 Peso silver coin, 18 million were minted at the Santiago mint, so not a rare coin nor expensive, but I hardly ever see them for sale here in the UK, and most look to have had a hard life.
Won three other coins in auctions which I am waiting for, lost six auctions (have a strict budget) and currently bidding on five more.
Quite a small coin, the size of a UK Sixpence, as always the pics dont show the lustre on the coin that you see in the hand.

This arrived late afternoon yesterday, very happy with it, its a shame I cannot capture the lustre on this coin, it looks like scuffing in the pictures.
This is a Czechoslovakian 1937 dated 20 Korun made of .700 silver, this large coin was made to commemorate the life and death of the president of Czechoslovakia T٠G٠Masaryk, this coin was only made one year only and only 1,000,000 were minted, which is low for a circulating commemorative coin.
Currently the largest in my collection, bigger than (though lighter) than my British half crown.
Next to UK 50p for size comparison, only just noticed its one of the special ones.

I have been looking at quite a few Polish 1930's coins, I love all of them, finding them in good condition is the fun part, especially the ones with Queen Jadwiga on, I really like your Pilsudski.

lol it gets Silverfingers OCD proof seal of approval, its one of the nicest I seen in a long time, my favourite part of it is where the date is and the surrounding, I just had a really nice coin arrive (and my largest yet) its too dark here now to photograph it, it will have to wait till tomorrow.

I love those Aussie florins, the reverse is more like a beautiful medal than a coin imo, one of those is on my bosses wishlist, stonking example there, still waiting for my two coins, I have seen loads I would like this week, must resist buying more it is so addictive, especially when something that looks nice and has a really low starting bid/buy it now price.

I love those 2.5 Gulden coins, they are high on my wishlist, there is lots out there but I have yet to find my AUNC / UNC one from the time period I am collecting, I won 2 more coins in auctions, just the wait now till they arrive (if they do) , and if they are any good.

Nothing special really but an upgrade to one I already had, this one has lots of its lustre remaining and the production in 1941 was half what it was of my other coin (1945), just got to get a wet wooden toothpick and my microscope out to clean the muck off of it later.
1941 dated British Six Pence .500 silver, production 23,186,600

No idea on the grading, but its one of the nicest I have seen, I always enjoy your posts and you collect coins from around the era I like, your picture of the Aussie one is quite helpful as I see quite a few of their silver WW2 era coins with that design and the animal side always looks pretty worn, (harder to tell from the GRVI side on a bad photo) but on your GRV the king looks very sharp but the otherside is the same as some others I have seen, was the reverse of these coins a little fuzzy even when freshly minted ?
