  1. I'll take one please. DM incoming.
  2. Is the RM trading bullion again? I mean can I buy gold from the RM?
  3. I'm somewhat wary about buying 2nd hand sovereigns online. I'd really like to see them in person and make sure I wasn't going to receive a worn one. I'm tempted by a 2020 Royal Mint brand new sovereign. They have dropped over the last few days to around 385 and could drop lower if this correction in price continues. I went to see my local dealer on Saturday and he had a collection of common older sovereigns in good condition. He was asking £375 each. I said I would have a mull over it and be back in a hour but when I went back he had sold them. Damn! Oh well, I will go again this Saturday and see what he has got.
  4. Thanks you for all your advice. How long does it take to access the classifieds section? Regards. edit - just seen it 3 days.
  5. I used The Royal Mint to make my first metal purchase at the turn of the year and the experience was less than satisfactory. After depositing my money in the wallet and making a purchase the system (apparently) went down due to a cut cable somewhere on site. This left me looking around the website trying to find evidence of my purchase. When I rang up CS they said my account could not be found which sent me into a big panic and I thought I'd been scammed. Anyway after a few hours I was found on a backup server and my account was transferred to the main server and the purchase went through but I had a bad few hours waiting for this resolution. I just think their IT systems are really bad and not fit for purpose and they use any excuse when the system falls over (which happens a lot). I'm not surprised they have suspended trading bullion as their IT systems are just trash and wouldn't be able to cope with the amount of traffic recent prices would generate on the system. It reminds me of when I used to work in the civil service they would buy cheap off the shelf IT systems and it would take years to sort out all the niggles. Unfortunately the people using the software for their day to day jobs would end up being the alpha and beta testers! To be fair to The Royal Mint I did make a 2nd purchase a month later and it went though fine but I still think they need to overhaul their IT system.
  6. Hi. I'm new around here and this is my first post. I'd like to say hello to everyone! I've have a question about new and old sovereigns. I've recently been purchasing a little bit of gold and silver. I've been buying from the big established players on the internet like the Royal Mint and some other well-known online dealers. I've been buying new uncirculated coins. I'm now interested in buying a couple of gold sovereigns. My first instinct was to go on the Royal Mint website and buy a few but I have a local dealer who sells early 20th sovereigns for much much cheaper. The current price for a sovereign on the RM is around £430 and my local dealer is selling these older sovereigns for £365. That is a big difference! Is that even below spot? Does spot rate come into play on older coins? At first I thought the price difference is because these older sovereigns are not .999 pure like the newer ones but I don't think that is the reason. I'm not into numismatist collecting. I just want to buy at the best price and stack them to sell at a later date. I'm really confused at the price difference and which one I should buy. Thanks.
