Melting .999 Silver Shot/Grain

Recommended Posts

Hi all

It is a fairly new Hobby for me... making mistakes and learning every day.

Need some help! I lost track of time and  overheated 10ozt of .999 silver shot in graphite crucible in a Cast Master electric furnace to the tune of 995*C.
I now have one solid mass of inseparable beads.

I tried letting crucible with stuck silver in it cool down gradually, and then tried remelting at proper temperature, but the mass of silver beads remained remained solid.

Can someone help me?    Thanks..  Dan

Hi there Dan,

not sure why it won’t melt down again, I normally pour mine at around 1050 - 1090 it is pretty much a nice liquid for me using a table top electric furnace, is the crucible intact and not damaged and did the overheat effect the heating element in some way? I’ve only just started myself so not sure why it could be happening hopefully someone else on here with more experience can help
