Books ...affordable ones ?

Amongst some of the newbie advice I was  kindly given by experienced collectors here. Buying relevant books , was one suggestion.  I must admit I was surprised at the cost of them..

£44+ So I've opted to buy my first one on UK sovereigns.  Since that's the direction I'm headed initially. If anyone has any other book suggestions or affordable resources to suggest I'd happily look at them all. I'm hoping I did alright with this book ?. (2021 published)Thanks

It's a good book for the Sovereign. There is an updated one that just come out image.thumb.png.4e921e7101898b53db36fd5d872b8754.png But the one you have is more than adequate. Its the one I have.

Thank you , I may look out for the update as a future investment , it's good to know the one I have is still relevant .

There's only a few of the more recent years that could have been updated and possible the few errors they made. On the whole though the info in the new one will be the same for anything before 2016

"I must admit I was surprised at the cost of them.."

Do you mean you were suprised by how expensive they were, or how reasonably priced?

You just made a good investment, and should learn a lot by reading it.

Before Steve Hill produced the first revised edition, copies of the latest Michael Marsh were changing hands at upwards of £75 each, and that was just for the (full) sovereign version.

After Marsh died, I thought about taking on the updating and revision, but am glad I did not do so.

Just imagine how many hours of expert toil went into writing the original, followed by the revison work.

You will get the benefit of all that, many years of work, all for the cost of an hour or two's pay, possibly less.

The 2024 version which came out earlier this month is the first one I've bought, and I'd been deliberately holding on until then because I wanted it to cover the platinum jubilee, memorial, and coronation sovereigns.

Where is best to get it from, any idea?

Wherever's cheapest - they'll all be the same book //thesilverforum.com/uploads/emoticons/default_biggrin.png

Mine came from hive.co.uk, but they don't seem to have it listed any more.

EBay is a sound bet for books at least!

I have collected the entire Marsh series - using eBay and a couple of specialist book sellers.  It wasn’t that hard but slightly expensive as I have only gone for ones signed by Marsh and in “minty” condition with dust jackets.

At first glance, I read that as "EBay is a sound bet for crooks at least!"

But I had been looking at

Update. Ebat book arrived.  Perfect condition,  unused. Turns out seller is related to a numismatic business  called 1817. Very happy with my book purchase
