Well im new to silver stacking (just posted in new members) and last week I thought I would buy my first big purchase of 10 oz so after looking around trying to get the cheapest silver coins for my money, so decided to go for 10 Guernsey Double 8s from Bullion Rock, they give you the option of paying the VAT at the checkout,

but thought I'd have a gamble at customs not picking it up, well they did pick up on it and stuck a big sticker on it saying VAT to pay £28.64 and royal mail handling charge £8.00 so £36.64 total to pay :( o well

but.....:) lucky for me no one at the post office can read THIS PACKAGE CANNOT BE DELIVERED UNTIL THE CHARGES ARE PAID sicker on the side :) so saved £36.64 but i've learnt my lesson and think I'll be giving STG a try next after reading about them on here

You got lucky I think, I wonder if they will still chase you for it.

STG are great, you'll have no complaints there mate.

I find packages don't often slip through lately, they are fairly hot on it.

I doubt it I had similar one from Aus last year and I've heard nothing.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

I had one from the US and got a letter about a month later.

Maybe they have stopped chasing nowadays.

As MZ says.

But we have, in my opinion and experience, the most fantastic free healthcare system.

What I'm trying to say is, when you weigh everything up, it all works out I reckon.

The Americans do have a good deal though, maybe that's why their financial system is so ducked.

I think Australians pay something called GST which is 10% on most things, but they have a nice scam going, if a silver coin is 999 or above there is no GST payable, handy then that their 2 mints produce .999 pure silver then  buy a 925 sterling silver coin and you will be charged GST from a dealer.

Some states in the USA have sales tax.

Here in Australia there is no gst (vat) on 999 bullion. Capital gains tax does apply tho.

Proof coins attract GST, but do not attract capital gains tax.

Australia has 2 government owned mints and a few private mints all capable of producing 999 gst free bullion.
