Hi all,
Just joined this group after buying 1100g of silver this week. I purchased an Argor Hereaus 250g and a Baird & Co 250g in assay card for £440 inc vat from Atkinsons. Then looked privately and after a bit of haggling I picked up 6 Geiger Edametalle 100g square bars in assays for £650. Bit of a heavy outlay for my first few purchases but that’s how it went. Hopefully over time (15year)this will be a good idea. Planning on adding 100g a month, as a newbie I’m open to suggestions.

My first piece of advice would be to focus on weight only, until you find your direction ( are you a stacker or collector)

As an example, standard 100g bars can be found for £80-£85 on here, so the extra outlay currently puts you in the collector bracket.

Look into getting a membership on here to see the best deals daily and make full use of the forum.

Welcome aboard.

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

Hello there I am a year into interest in precious metal and I would suggest you consider gold over silver. The VAT on silver is pretty much a killer, silver has to rise by 20% before you can even break even. Then there are the dreaded milk spots to contend with.

Regardless of the above buy a good set of scales a neodymium magnet and a caliper for checking your goods. I'd also like a ping tester but it seems only the USA have stock.

Here is a useful site for checking out coins: https://en.numista.com/

Welcome in mate 👍
