Opening an account with Silver Square Geiger

NGMD

Recommended Posts

Hopefully, the right section.

A question for my learned members.

I really like the Silver Square Geiger products and have been looking at opening an account with them in Germany. There is not a section on details to ship to U.K., no replies to messages and E-Mail. They do not have any U.K. distributor.

Has anyone dealt with them legitimately? Looking for VAT free Geiger branded Gold so should be relatively simple……..

Either @Arne or @cliveb13 have some gold, maybe they can advise.

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

I tried to buy some silver from them around  a week ago and there CS said they don't sell Silver to other countries in the  EU or UK and only sell within Germany due to a Rule change. It wasn't a option to send to a German Post Box either but they will sell Gold. I think they make some of the rule's up Ad-hoc as I use Coininvest and Auragentum quite regularly and they are both German companies.

@James32 & @NGMD

i do have a little Geiger stack inc gold but I did not import it. I bought some to start with from @arphethean and also Robert FC on Facebook. He had quite a few pieces that he had bought on a trip to Germany I think, so again not imported. I bought the 1oz (gorgeous) gold square on here, but I have not seen another one come up in > 3 years

I’d like to add others but they come up so infrequently , esp gold, it’s not a ‘thing’

probably easiest is to acquire a German contact, get them to buy, & visit the  contact once a year or so.
sorry I cannot be of more help

Brilliant Info Clive and much appreciated. The 1 oz Gold Square is the one I want.!

I’ll reach out to my German distributor for next month. They just seem uninterested if I’m honest but feel it’s a very desirable bar for collectors. I’ll check what he can bring over legally and above board and buy a range.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to travel to Germany yourself and buy there?

You could exercise the old TSF flipper trick, buy 2, sell one for twice you paid for it and hold one for nothing?

Yes @Roy but not all places do over the counter retail. I was in Switzerland with a plan to buy some Combibars but couldn’t happen. Had to be pre ordered and couldn’t be delivered to a hotel in Switzerland …. Damn… thwarted

Hope I can find somewhere to help with the awkward ones, the Pt & the Pd

The 1oz gold is a very nice piece & I pay a premium to buy it, certainly not spot + 3% or whatever. But glad I did as it came early in my collecting cycle & now I would have hated to miss it.
I’ll visit my safety deposit soon & take a pic

1kg according to Govt Customs. Investment Gold only.

I think I can get some hand delivered if I can get the ball rolling before I’m due to meet up on the 21st. All the Geiger sites do not have the option to buy online for the U.K.,but every obscure country around the world!

Theres also a main site in Stuttgart- lots of pleasure there.

I’ll let you know….

@NGMD I don’t have a 20g gold or a 50g gold ( if they make one ) . If you need to add to your idea of an order to make it viable then I am happy to commit to either or both

Others can attest I act in good faith

They make 20,50,100g and the oz for my level of spend. Stunning pieces but hard to come by because the service is poor.

I’ll reach out when back in the office Monday as I’m on a deadline when they come over from Tuttlingen. Be useful to have a personal supply and share a few bits.

Thanks Becca for the kind offer. I have a few 1kg Silver sealed bars myself but I want to reduce space and value by getting the gold versions. Need to tick that box.

Just an update.

I have contact Geiger direct and asked them to supply the U.K. to private individuals, complimenting their products and the potential of selling regularly to other collectors like myself.
They replied they only ship within the EU and attached a U.S. distributor (Apmex)who could help🤪 They also directed to me an Ebay seller in Germany selling junk silver.

Not deterred.

I replied back saying I could not buy from US due to them not having the same tax and duty agreements and higher courier fees that we currently share with EU and U.K. on investment Gold. I then offered to have the Gold picked up by DHL/FEDEX through a business account to reduce their logistics.

I also mentioned that could I pick up in person.

Feeling Smug.

They replied they they could not deliver to the U.K. because of Brexit.
That is such a lazy poor excuse.

Many of us know that businesses have worked through this political stand-off and traded successfully. Funny that they would ship to the US which requires 6 copies of everything, nightmare customs and sky high tariffs.

She did say I could pick up personally. Getting somewhere.

I have gone to Plan F and trying to get a supply from two parties in Germany and Italy. I hope they can post or I’m going there and then raising the prices on my German customers for their countryman’s poor customer service.

I have a Bee in my bonnet and not letting it go.

TBC

Using brexit as an excuse sounds more political rather than practical. Personally I wouldn't want to give them my money after saying something like that. There are many companies that adapted to the change in the EU and are trading just fine.

I'm not a big fan of their products anyway, but if I was I'd just try and get them 2nd hand from a private sale.
