Hi all, 

Found this forum via Google whilst looking for information on a couple of 1kg silver bars i inherited along with a number of Gold 1oz coins. Although the coins are fairly standard so easy to value. 

Hopefully i can find more info and a possible valuation. I'll post images and the request for info in the Silver section.

Look into getting a membership, it will show commitment on your part and allow unlimited access to the forum. 

You will have to offer to post first to established members so they can verify authenticity ( read their feedback carefully)

Thanks, I've seen people hide the serial numbers so did the same🙂

Have you polished them?
These are vintage Engelhard bars. They are in effect worth as much as someone is willing to pay. 

How much would you consider taking for them?

Those are nice vintage bars, so let's say an average kilo is currently trading at £720+ post.. then those are worth more.

How much more? That's really up to you and the buyer ( how quick do you want to sell?)

@sixgun is a vintage bar collector I believe, so might be worth reaching out to him for a fair offer.

My advice is somewhere North of £720 obviously, but don't get too carried away and think you have a unicorn..it will put buyers off.

I've not polished, they look a bit tarnished in the flesh, they were in my dads safe for years, untouched. 

No idea of value, i see silly money valuations on ebay, but they don't seem to sell. 

At the moment I'm just curious, as they might add to retirement fund, or at least pay for a holiday somewhere 🙂

Exactly they don't sell at those prices. As i said they are worth as much as someone is willing to pay and no-one is willing to pay astronomic prices. They have a low mintage serial number but there is nothing else out of the ordinary. It depends whether you can find an Engelhard collector who believes that is worth the juice. They are going to be something of a rarity, perhaps even rarer than the bars themselves. The question after that is always would that collector ever find the next person to pay the same money or more come the day the bars are sold again? It is absolutely crushing when you come to sell and no-one else out there thinks of that special coin or bar in the same way. This is what i have come to realise over time and it isn't always an easy lesson.
Anyway, nice to see these bars.
