Ping Test - 10 Yen Coin

JapanSilver

Recommended Posts

Here in Japan getting into my stacking journey. I also want to keep $100~ face value junk silver for fractional purposes, especially if I can get them cheap.

I'm now nervous about getting fake junk coins because I accidentally bought one, but cancelled the transaction due to a translation error (it was clearly marked as 'replica' and looked close, but the size/weight didn't add up which is when I finally caught on).

That led me to the gravity test (need a new scale) and the ping test.

Anyway, I can now pick up on the ping of silver quite well. But, that brings me to the 10 yen coin. Does anyone have a Japanese 10 yen coin and can you perform the ping test on it to tell me that I'm not crazy? It pings at a higher pitch than most pieces of silver I've tried it on, but just as drawn out. It also generally passes one of the three ping tests on an Android app for about all silver coins.

Hope to hear other people's responses on this if they have any to ping test, and what method that was done.

I am just concerned because my favorite junk coin is the Washington Quarter and the 10 yen piece is about the same size and weight. A silver coating and press might pass off as the correct weight and potentially the ear's ping test (doesn't ping on the app as such as it is, but the silver coating might tone it down).

All of this makes me want to get myself a Sigma. I am just unsure about that as my main investment will be from a trusted bullion dealer soon and the Sigma wouldn't do me any good then (assumed good).
