Happy new Year forum!

i have picked up these two coins on holiday, which for me are quite interesting so I wanted to share them with you and also ask your opinions on perceived value.

2 Pula Botswana 1986 proof

100 Shillingi Tanzania 1986 proof

These are part of a series made by the British Royal Mint as a celebration of conservation efforts of the WWF in 1986. Both are in good condition and have their CoA.

- how do you like them?

- what value would you place on them (individually or as a pair)

for transparency, I paid 35€ for the pair which I think is a good deal.

hope you enjoy them and thanks for all of your inputs!

Nice coins and in good condition too.

I think you did well to buy them for €35, considering there is 1.42 ounce of pure silver content worth £28.10 (€31.70).

Nice pickup. 👍

I agree. Nice coins, and a good enough price.

Do you know what "Ipelegeng" means? Or where it is?

As these are WWF issues, it seems a shame they had to kill the two zebras and a bull to put them on the Coat of Arms!

Certainly interesting coins, thanks for sharing. I would also agree that you paid more or less fair price and if nothing else got a nice souvenir from your holiday which can even increase in value over time!

Just for the record, the latest auction results for these coins were Botswana sold at EUR 20+%, Tanzania unsold at CHF 20+%.

So a bit of research; Ipelegang means self reliance, and I imagine it’s a slogan came to be after independence of Botswana

Pretty good!

When I first saw it, I struggled to discover it's meaning, but I eventually found it, and noted it here:

There is also a village of the same name:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipelegeng

Although Wikipedia was no help when I created our old Botswana page.
