So I've been seriously collecting Proof & Reverse Proof coins recently and would like to add to my collection from other Mints around the world

So what other Mints have produced Proof & Reverse Proof coins?  They don't have to be in an official set, but I would like to pick up them in the same year.

So far I have:

2022 Royal Mint Britannia's

2021 US Silver Eagle

2022 Libertads

So what other ones are out there?

I'll get the 2023 Britannia Proof set with the King on them.  But usually won't double up on anything unless something super special.

Ah yeah I will pick up a Maple Proof and Reverse Proof for sure too.

There was some ultra limited set that came out this year, but I think it's more expensive than the Libertads now lol

There are reverse proof maples iirc, think there are more in gold than silver, but silvers do exist

There are a couple more gold ones here:

I thought we had a blog / info page about "Reverse Proof", but I can't find it.

What a strange effigy of Elizabeth on the 2016!

It seems the RCM did their own special portrait for the one year / set.

But our description:

"Obverse
Each coin features a different potrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Susanna Blunt." is rather ambiguous.

Sadly gold is not in my realm of reality lol

I don't even visit the gold forums lol

Maybe one day I'll be rich and will jump into gold, but for now (and maybe forever) it's just silver for me.

I've been stretching lately to even pick up the Proofs & Reverse Proofs.  I figure once I have my collection of world mint proofs, I can start focusing on just stacking bullion.  It will seem like a deal once all of the P/RP drain my bank account lol

I'm surprised there aren't more Reverse Proof offerings from other world Mints.

Nothing from the Perth Mint? No Philharmonic RP?

I do prefer to get proofs of the Mint's "main coin", eagles, maples, brits etc.

Next year the US Mint is offering proof and a reverse proof set of their Morgan and Peace dollars.  Best of all you can subscribe now and be guaranteed of getting them all.  Should be a beautiful set.  Probably about $85 for single proof coins and $175 for the reverse proof set

Yes I did sign up for both proofs and the reverse proof set, but thanks for the heads up!

I hope the US Mint puts out a Buffalo proof/reverse proof in the next couple of years.

[ . . . ]

I don't know what your stacking budget is, but if you're doing silver then gold is probably going to be significantly more efficient, even at that level.  Once upon a time I saw a posting here about someone who had a conversation with a person stacking £200 worth of silver a month as that was all she could afford.  That was going to be horribly inefficient due to the premiums, and it did set me thinking about what could be done in that range that would be significantly more efficient than 1oz silver.

  • On £200/month you could do a half sovereign every month or a sovereign every two months.  Because of the large numbers produced, sovereigns tend to have smaller premiums than other factional gold, making them good value for stacking.  This is probably the most efficient as you can re-sell sovs and half sovs here for not all that much less than you would buy them for if you shop around.  For sovs or half sovs, try HGM, Bairds, Gerrards, Chards, Atkinsons, ATS, Britannia Coin Company or Blundell's as a starting point.  Bairds load a bit on shipping so may not be so efficient for small orders.  Also, keep an eye on the UK ungraded boards here.
  • Some outfits offer good deals on fractional 1g-5g gold bars.  Try Tavex (while they still have their introductory pricing), or some of the secondhand options from Blundells, Chards or Atkinsons.  Also, keep an eye on the UK ungraded board here, and there are some facebook groups that these will pop up on as well.  Get a sense for what a reasonable premium to pay over spot is.  Most small fractional bars will be priced way too high so you will have to go bargain hunting.
  • Sometimes there are good deals on 1/10 oz and 1/4 oz coins.  Try the above as a starting point.  With these, keep an eye on the premiums, but you can re-sell these here at around 10% over spot or thereabouts, so as long as you keep an eye on what you're paying you can expect to recover most or all of it.
  • World gold coins - Ducats, 20 franc roosters, 'Swiss Miss' Helvetias etc.  These can go for low premiums like sovereigns as they are also around in large numbers.  No CGT exemption like sovs, but at this level it's going to be a while before you have to worry about CGT.  Do your homework about suitable types and what a reasonable premium is.

The key here is that you will need to shop around a bit, do your homework and put a bit of effort into keeping an eye on the boards here.  The items mentioned here can all be re-sold here at a price point that will let you retain most of the premium you pay from a dealer - if you keep an eye on the price.  Buying here is the most efficient but requires you to keep an eagle eye on the boards.

Good hunting.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.
