Lego collecting thread

Recommended Posts

As the title says Im looking at collecting lego & as it happens we have been given a ton of new lego.
I have not event looked at it yet.

Just wondering what to look out for and an ongoing thread to see what people have bought.
I dont really want to fill my house with c**p, but im now set on the collectible longer term mind set to go with the metals.
It wont make me rich, but it holds its value. I sold a back to the future book, poster and stuff in 2020 for about double what I paid for it in 1990's
I was a bit miffed, but actually given inflation an all the BS it was a good investment to store value & generally is quite risk free given you buy the right stuff.
I have also been given a number of quite valuable vinyl, so long those lines really as the tangible will do well in some areas I think.

Im starting a few threads like this with regards to things I am considering collecting. :)
Its coming in a good time for this as people will be struggling going forward - 20-30 year investment really.

We like the Technics, but it's not traditional Lego is it?

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

Someone i work with, her husband collects and sells Lego, If its a set he wants to build he buys two, one for him and one to invest in, unopened sets carry better value as you probably know...

some expensive sets out there too

It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.

Any update on this @Stacktastic.

Would like to get into this myself.

Decided against stacking a lot of collectibles as they take up a load of space and might not even track inflation.
I am however looking at buying rum and may buy some whisky. I think Rum is very undervalued.

I will stick to things that actually interest me I think, that way I will be an expert and be passionate.
For example I like shooting - a top notch posh-boy shotgun is always something that often accrues value. :P

but for now with everything I earn going out
its not ideal to be speculating on somehting that might accrue in value in 20 years time. :)

I spent £220 on 2 pokemon sets a few months back. 😛
Spent more than that on 2 bottle of rum last week - that makes more sense to me - I can drink that if it goes no where.

Just consider the space first, a sovs worth of lego (£400ish) is a box around the size of a large microwave.

Prices seem random, some sets which I bought for £7 are now selling for £70, but some are still just £7

It's another thing I wish I'd never bought.

A bit of a resurrection here, but I notice Ebay is far cheaper for new sets than direct from Lego. Are there good fakes about that look like the real deal?
