In the royal mint auction lot, there is a 4 coin 1989 proof sovereign set, starting at £3500. Chards have one listed at 9 and a half grand, so thought maybe it would be worth posting

And that means: being almost in the preserved mint condition, right?

Means the coin is the highest state of preservation, as good a condition as was when minted - a very abused term in the coin world unfortunately

Mate this auction was nothin but a bin sale, loads of grade C, spotty problematic coins even if they sold at spot they still would make 20% commission, it's not a bad tactic really when you think about it.

I didn't look at this auction so no idea about the condition of these coins. I have had an issue in the past with this seller regarding description of proof sovs.

My 10 pennies worth....The 1989 4 coin proof set, the £5 has only very slight bits of frosting missing, the double is very problematic see the reverse, the full is okay ish but very unlikely get a 70 if you are into that and the 1/2 is not much better.  it's looking 7.5k ish with fees I'd rather pay a tad more and get a better set. Lets see how this one ends up.

The 1989 set sold for 5.5 + 20% buyers fees plus vat £1,100 and as I can work out its 20% on the £1,100 + £220 so it sold for £6820 if i'm adding it up right for a iffy 4 coin set.

The full sovereign sold for £2200 £2728.......WTF picture of the fields of the obverse below.
