Taking a 3g panda out of the OMP, thoughts?

Okay, so I know collectors prefer pandas in the OMP, and with all the fakes around, I wonder if this would be another reason. İf my panda was an ounce/30g, or 8g/quarter ounce etc, I'd definitely keep it in.

But the 3g is a very small one, the OMP is huge in comparison, and I imagine due to premiums it's probably not the most sought after collectable size.

Would I be losing significant value taking the 3 gram out of the seal and putting it in a capsule? Or are we talking maybe just a couple of quid at most? I guess maybe it won't sell as fast, but I bought it because I thought it was very aesthetically pleasing, not because I wanted to try and flip it, and this omp does not do it justice at all.

Thoughts?

It up to you. Do what will make you happy! It will make no difference to resale. I agree it will look better in a nice capsule, that's what I would do.

I sold a 1/20th gold panda in a capsule a few months back and it went in about 15 mins for my full asking price.

Thank you for the input! I've heard the mintage for this year is extremely high too. I mean if I came across an old panda still in the OMP, I'd likely leave it in unless I sent it to get graded.

Good to know you had no issues selling yours :)

If anything, I find OMP a bit of a turnoff when I see listings here of coins in it.  It means you have to store it separately, and then worry about the condition of the packaging in storage.  With a capsule, if the capsule gets scratched you could replace it.  That's not to say take it out of the package, but I f I had the choice of buying the same coin in and out of OMP at the same price I would buy it without.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

That's a good point. I question how pristine this plastic would keep the coin, and it's quite hard to see the condition of it. Maybe the sovereign blister packs are better for this, but I opted for a capsule for my 2022 sovereign instead of the blister because I wanted to keep it as immaculate as possible.

Thank you Silverlocks

Do it, set the panda free, lifes too short.

When we buy in secondary market coins, they are usually in better condition if they have been kept in their original packaging, which is always good, but it does take up extra storage space, which is not.

It gives us more options when reselling it, which is also good.

You have already received some good opinions and advice. Just do whichever you are happiest with, and don't worry about a thing, as Bob Marley almost said to me.

One other thought: There are probably more fake "packaged coins and bars" than there are raw or uncased ones, just so you are aware.

Makes sense actually. A package can posit a sense of authenticity, perhaps someone would not want to open a panda to accurately weigh it or ping test it, for fear of devaluing it, or may feel it "must be real as it's sealed"

The answers have been very helpful, the little panda will roam free, well, they'll be given a nice capsule, but they'll be treated well

It is dependent on the particular panda, but as it's 3g this will be post 2015 so no particular premium in it anyway, nor likely to be in the ten year timeframe as they are minted in such high numbers of late.

Had it been a 1990's coin that would be a different story, and only argument for removing from OMP would be to get it graded in all likelihood.
