2023 QEII Sovereigns?

Does anyone know if there will be 2023 dated Queen Elizabeth II Sovereigns released?

I'm trying to decide whether to put my money into a 2023 QEII Britannia or wait for 2023 QEII Sovereigns.

I think it is very unlikely there will be a QEII 2023 Sovereign.  I think most people are looking forward to the first Charles III Sovereign.

I'm in the same boat.

Sovs usually release in November but with the change in monarch, they may not be available until the new year

I personally think it will be delayed compared to normal as they have had to start again from scratch as they were most likely expecting 2023 to be a normal sovereign with the queen pre what's happened.

Its pretty clear they had already started producing Britannia's with her on them.

No

If in doubt, get both!

I can see them doing a Sovereign with a privy in 2026 to honour what would have been QE II’s 100th Birthday.

They did this (rather randomly!) in 2020 for the 200th anniversary of the death of King George III.

But of course the Sovereign itself would have KC III’s effigy.

It sounds like we need to start on our 2026 mockup!

I'm blind guessing at 14th November 2022, or at least we get a SOTD for KCIII first birthday as king........

Thanks all for your thoughts and opinions.  In the end temptation got the better of me so I have followed Lawrence's advice and ordered a 2023 Gold Brit and will also get a 2023 QEII Sov if they do appear.

Some of these appeared today:

I still think it's weird that they're releasing any coins of the Queen dated 2023 to be honest.

Decency and good taste should have seen any that were struck melted back down. But I guess I'm just old fashioned.

There are literally millions of new banknotes in storage, obviously with Queenie on, and Charlie gave his blessing for those to be issued into circulation.

I imagine he will have similarly given hus blessing on coins, stamps and whatever else.

He is a "green" chap at heart, so would be appalled at the waste if unused notes were burnt, coins melted down etc.

Notes melted down too! 😁

Re Banknotes, whether they are paper or polymer, all are recycled, and not burnt!

Also, the R.M. Is anxious to comply with all Eco protocols, having read through their latest Annual Report, and is therefore is unlikely to consider melting down QE11 coins. It’s nothing to do with decency and good taste. It’s more to do with expense and practicality. The Charles portrait will happen in due course. What’s the rush?

I concluded that the R.M. Is a very complex organisation and has many other issues to deal with other than satisfying the needs of P.M. collecting. Firstly it has to ensure the gold it buys is ‘responsibly sourced’  So far I’ve not been able to find out where that gold comes from!……Does anybody know?

Melting down all the unsold coins? 😁

I do recall someone said the mint buys the prepared blanks from the Perth Mint, so perhaps Australian gold is used?

If so... Not quite sure how they come out with the coppery colouring, as Aussie gold was often yellower.

I guess the US and Canada are also options?

If the mint buy anything in rather than use the pallets full of pm they currently hold then they are a big enough customer to say exactly what they want and what it is made of, hence the use of copper

You seem to be forgetting that the only reason the vast majority of people have only ever seen Elizabeth on coins is due to decimalisation, when pre decimal all ended up being recycled. Up until that time coins in circulation had a variety of monarchs on. Right now it could be some time before Charles appears on coins in circulation because the mint has no reason to mint them as there are loads both in circulation and in reserve.

I wasn't talking about circulation coins though, they are, as you rightly say, issued from the stockpile as required. The NCLT and bullion however? If they can't shift it.
