Silver Bangle Repair

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I wondered if any of the silver makers on the forum would be able to repair a silver cuff bangle for me. It's around and inch and a half wide and has just developed a crack in it. Was wondering if someone could melt a little silver onto the back and prevent it worsening?

I've worn it for years and its my favourite bangle.

Cheers 🙂

I believe @SilverAngel on occasion silver solders, maybe they could possibly help.

Not something i have done before and would not want to attempt.  Sorry 😞

If the bangle is hollow it’ll be more tricky to repair. Usually they would need to fill it or “build up” with silver the broken hollow area then seal it. Sometimes laser soldering works but again it’s an expensive tool that jewellers would possess.

If it’s a solid bangle - soldering and repairing the bangle is more straight forward.

Best to take it to a local jeweller for them to inspect the bangle if I was you.

I'm ok with a simple fix - it doesn't need to be a perfect job 🙂

Just a solder blob on the back would work for me.

I'd just like to continue to be able to wear it as I have for a couple of decades

Normally to solder you want clean flat very close fitting edges so the solder flows in a capillary action to make a strong joint. Also this looks quite a large piece so would need heating evenly with the hammered effect making any cleaning up more difficult. I think it would be best to get a quote on having this item professionally repaired but if the price is prohibitive I can make a ham fisted attempt at repairing it free of charge although this would be 100% at your own risk 😅 😁

That's fab! I would be extremely happy to accept your ham-fisted attempt! 😄

It's a very old bracelet with no sentimental value, that I just happen to like wearing daily, a bodge job is completely welcome.

Thanks so much

Dang... thought it had sentimental value 🤣
