I've got some more accurate scales arriving tomorrow.

I'll choose another coin and start again 🤓

Don't start with another coin. Just continue with this one, having as starting point of experiment the coin weighted tomorrow.

The scale you are using is akin to using a Kodak Brownie!

A worthy experiment but If the coin isn't dried properly it might actually add some weight dumbfounding Sir Lawerence of Chard once and for all!

Solution,  I'm working on a 4 part process  it's impossible to make a coin 100% perfect but it is possible to get rid of the more unattractive areas.   For silver bullion it's just really for fun, however especially with gold proof sovereigns that people think are poor quality I can get them graded quite well at the NGC and can add some nice value/saleability to the coin.

It is adds any weight, then repeat the test with a gold coin next time!

...but the postage costs!!!

Happy to pony up the 8 pounds for RM special delivery.

Off course, if you,  Lawrence or any other TSF member wants to double check DrDave finds, I'm happy to cover international postage to be sent a  gold coin for reconstructing the experiment

PS: my scale goes to 3 decimal points

Very nice coin now!

After finishing your experiment will be interesting to send it for grading. I am very curious if will come back "Cleaned".😁

Do you think they'd notice?

But if anybody wants to pay for grading, i'll happily donate the coin!

Do you realise how long it takes to shoot that image.............!😂

I'll see what i can do 👍

Fair point! - I know you have been refining your photo technique... 😏

Just a snapshot would do - wouldn't have to be mega quality... I was just curious if it got any better each day...

Well, todays weigh in shows the coins at

31.182g

which is down from yesterday!

For now, i'm putting it down to factors such as drying, cleanliness etc, although i'm trying to be thourough.

I've now got another coin which i'll weigh as a control each day, so if the scales are at all inconsistant then we should be able to spot it.

Today's weigh in:

31.182g

Looks very bright to the naked eye, but my macro lens tells a slightly different story!

Anyway the Maple is back in for a long bath over the weekend, so assuming its not completely dissolved by Monday (Trust me, it won't be) then we'll have another weigh in

Have a great weekend folks

Interesting... 🤔

Maybe v2 of the experiment could involve an Ultrasonic Cleaner & solution + foil...? - not suggesting you have to buy one, I'm sure there's plenty of Forum members with them...?

I've got one of them ☺️

I might run a test
