closed Guatemala Gold 10 Quetzal - Extremely Rare

An opportunity to purchase a rare piece of Guatemalan Gold 🇬🇹

A nation bordered with Mexico and El Salvador, and just west of the Caribbean.

Only 18,000 of the 10 Quetzal coins were ever minted, this being a single year design making these coins very rare to find. It is unknown how many of the 18,000 were released to the public

The coin itself features the Guatemalan coat of arms and the national bird the ‘Quetzal’. This being a delicate and beautiful highly coloured bird that resides in humid forests and highlands. The bird is considered as one of the most beautiful bird species and was considered sacred by the Aztecs. The Quetzal is perched on a pillar celebrating Guatemala’s freedom.

The coin weighs 16.72g of .900 Gold, it has a diameter of 27mm. A video showing a similar coin can be seen on: https://auronum.co.uk/product/guatemala-gold-10-quetzales/

Importantly, I am expecting an ungraded Gold 5 Quetzal coin but this is currently stuck somewhere in a postal depot. I intended to release the two coins at the same time so the buyer of this coin will be offered first refusal of the 5 Quetzal

price: £1895 delivered

Thank you for looking :)

Very unusual, so far as my experience goes, to see muskets on a coin. Presumably a reference to a war of liberation?

Yes I found some information on the coat of arms, taken from Wikipedia:

  • The crossed rifles are the type used during the 1871 Liberal Revolution, and represent the will to defend Guatemala's interests.
  • The crossed swords represent justice and honor.

I have seen a lot of weaponry on flags from African nations, but its interesting to see the history behind countries that were historically under Spanish rule
