Hello there! Has anyone know anything about this hallmark? In the upper front (last picture) it says “1691”.

It would make sense to include better shots of the inscription, and perhaps a transcription of it, which would possibly reveal almost everything you want to know about it.

Central bankers are politicians disguised as economists or bankers. They’re either incompetent or liars. So, either way, you’re never going to get a valid answer.” - Peter Schiff

Sound money is not a guarantee of a free society, but a free society is impossible without sound money. We are currently a society enslaved by debt.

Hi, @Kitz11, and welcome on forum!

I have checked in my database and I can not find something similar.

There are two possibilities:

1. If you are 100% sure the tankard it is silver, it was probably made in the honour of one big noble (boyar or grof) hungarian or transylvanian commander of one of the multiples battles of the Great Turkish War (1683-1699). Hungary Kingdom and Principality of Transylvania were involved in this war, as part of the Holy League.

At that time, the regulations of hallmarking system probably were not very strict, so your hallmark should be one a maker mark of numerous silversmiths from that area, almost impossible to find out after so many centuries, or a local hallmark of a city. There are hundreds of them having the initial M or H. Can be for example the silvermaker Mattias from city of Hunedoara.

2. It is another variant (even I don't think so), if the tankard it is not silver. In this case, it is made in the 19th century, after 1848 Revolution, to commemorate an important king of Hungary (the nationalism ideology was very active at that moment) and can be pewter or later silver plate. Personally, judging the high relief details and the good quality of your item, I don't think the second variant is the correct one.

But your tankard should be tested first for type of metal.

If it is silver, you can visit the Museum of History in Cluj, Timisoara, Arad or Bucuresti and for sure a historian will tell you more about.

Please, can you upload on here pictures with the entire inscription? I am very sure that can be a name of the person from that little statue from tankard's lid.

All the best!

Stefan. (romanian, as well😊)
