2003 Angled Example of The Queen's Portrait on a Royal Australian Mint $100 Gold

Recommended Posts

I just came across this example from almost 20 years ago of a Queen Elizabeth II portrait.

What's the correct description? Half profile? I have a feeling I should know, but can't think of it.

I think it is an attractive portrait, and can't understand why I was not aware of it previously:

I think it is supposed to portray her as in 1953 Coronation year.

The certificate informs us that the reverse was designed by Peter Soobik, and engraved by Wojciech Pietranik:

There was also a silver 50 Cents? in the Two-Coin set:

At least, I think it is a 50 Cents!

Yes, it's a 50 cent coin. Nice design with the Federation Star and a sprig of golden wattle, the national flower of Australia.

There was also a similar set issued in 2002 for the 50th anniversary of accession of QEII (reverse also by Peter Soobik).

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

Did you know that Perth Mint were originally thinking of calling its gold nuggets (later kangaroos) "wattles" or "golden wattles">
