closed South African Republic Gold Coins – Ponds & Half Ponds – Various Dates – Scarce Coins – UK 🇬🇧

Recommended Posts

🌕🇿🇦 For sale here are some gold Pond and Half Pond coins from the South African Republic 🇿🇦🌕

The Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek (ZAR) period was from 1874 to 1902 and these wonderful gold coins circulated in the latter stages of that pre-Union period!

Like all standard circulation coins these have plenty of history to them, but perhaps the most interesting and note-worthy point as that they are all pre-Boer War! All of these coins were minted before the Second Boer War commenced in 1899 so were present in the South African Republic while this war was raging on! 💥

The obverse features a bearded bust of South African politician and prominent military figure President Johannes Paulus Kruger.

The reverse features the arms of the South African Republic, above which the denomination and date reside.

Another interesting note to make about these coins is that those dated 1892 were struck by the Royal Prussian Mint in Berlin and the rest struck at the South African Republic's Mint in Pretoria. Coins of the Pond and Half Pond series boast conservative mintage figures throughout, but coins dated 1892 are particularly scarce. The 1892 Ponds have a book mintage of 15,640 and the 1892 Half Ponds have an even lower mintage at 10,130.

This sales post presents you with an opportunity to procure the date of 1892 in both denominations.

I am more than happy to provide additional photos of individual coins to give buyers a better idea of condition and toning and such. Just ask. 👍🏻

Beautiful coins in a great condition too

Thank you.

Not types which are easy to get in high grades. Generally command strong money in UNC grades, particularly 1892 dated Ponds and Half Ponds.

Lots of history behind these. Great world gold additions! 🌕

Impressed with the historical knowledge of SA there!

We had the warning in 2006-9 but central banks ignored it and just added new worthless debt to existing worthless debt to create worthless debt squared – an obvious recipe for disaster. - Egon von Greyerz
