That could be a major project, trying to educate ebay sellers.

Most of them have already had about 12 years of full time education, without much apparent effect.

How dare you Lawrence 😤

I was thrown out in year 10....apparently smoking and drinking in the principles office is frowned upon  🤷‍♂️

Binlord of the week Part 2

This joker on ebay selling an 1839 Half Sovereign (None to my knowledge were minted in 1839....)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353954744974?hash=item526958ca8e:g:b-wAAOSwDZ5iKlq4

His / Her / Its Feedback tells a sorry tale:

  • This is a restrike and not as advertised
  • The coin was far darker and stained than evident on the picture
  • The central stone is not a diamond ( tested ) but as the ring is 10ct gold I will keep it
  • Coin recieved was a forgery. I note further specimens listed
  • The item delivered did not look like the one in the photo and looks remarkably like a forged reproduction. I will now need to investigate with my London based dealer for authentication
This Binlord seems to specialise in selling counterfeit Sovs and Viking coins.

Report as you see fit.

Well sometimes it's peoples own fault,Look at the feedback for a starters its terrible.

The bid could well be from the scamming seller to make it look like others want it.

It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.

I got a fake funnel web in 2020, and as soon as i let it slide out of the envelope i knew it was fake, 3 grams difference but so easy to tell when you've handled loads,

He tried to cliam it was real and 28 grams was an ounce and didnt even know what a troy was

He gave a refund and asked me to destroy it

Still got it and I show people i know who are thinking of getting into PMs to look out for these type of sellers..

Ebay plays a big part in it too, as long as they get their fee.

1839 half sovereigns do exist.

Victoria Half Sovereign Prices & Availability

Date  Reign Exists Obv. Rev.
1838 Victoria Yes Young Shield
1839 Victoria Yes Proof Only Young Shield

Source:

https://taxfreegold.co.uk/halfsovereignsdatesexist.html

The coin listed on ebay is probably a fake or imitation, rather than a restrike.

Here is a particularly bad imitation on AliExpress

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33021217957.html

£1.18

I am sure there will be better ones, but they may be twice the price!

Agreed! These are very nice coins and a good rate for what they are if anyone wants to take a look. There are some very nice designs.

Lovely coins, just to be clear I only mentioned as Lawerence used to be very particular on what constituted a "double sovereign" 😁
