On a historical note, whichever portrait they decide to use of Henry VII, I think it’s important to appreciate that back in early Tudor period, that was the only image or representation that most people ever saw of their King or Queen on the coins in their pocket or purse.

It most likely wasn’t until Queen Victoria that people saw the monarch as much as before.

I just hope, however crude the original Henry VII might seem to us today that this new series does justice to the original and it’s not an overly ‘modernised’ depiction. We’ll have to wait and see.

Agreed about retaining the “crude” aspects of the original portraits.

I have hope - since for the latest Gothic Crown coin, Gordon Summers talks about the “pursuit of imperfection” and how the coin just looks great because of those imperfections.

Likewise I hope they will retain the original font as well.

Well, i am dissapointed to be honest.

i am not a big fan of portraits, i always buy coins for the reverse design so having two faces in one coin is not my cup of tea and i think some people will agree with me.

To my eyes, this series will be another failed attempt to extract the last drop of milk of a dying cow by the Royal Mint.

Peoples wallets are empty from the last 3-4 huge releases (completer, sovereign proofs 2022, Gothic Crown and platinum Jubilee coins) . In my opinion, they should have taken a break and let peoples wallets recuperate and prepare for the next big thing.

This is a no from me.

This I agree with in general, even though my wallet wasn’t affected by the Platinum Jubilee coins seeing as I got zilch.

It’s only January and we’re seeing 2 huge releases, on the heels of 2 already huge releases, and very soon we’ll see another huge release with the Gothic Portrait. And then there’s the Tudor Beasts. And if this new Monarchs series is 3 to 4 coins a year, literally wtf! 🤯

3 to 4 coins a year is a lot. Me personal missed the Gothic, so unneeded powder is dry. The only RM series, i'll continue right now, is the Tudor Beasts. Even if i get a portrait, i don't think about paying extra high premiums for other Great Engravers coins. So i'm not super excited about the next GE releases. Propably i'll turn from now on to Jack the Flipper, every time i'll get a Great Engraver coin, since i don't have the whole collection. Not sure about this monarchs series, but i think the main interest will be in the UK. Can't see americans, chinese, or european collectors go crazy for this.

The first one will be a blind buy, if i don't get murdered again in the queue. If this coin looks nice, i'll go for the next one. If not, i'm out. I have enough stress at work i do for a living. Coins are my hobby and i want enjoy collecting.

That's an interesting thought.

This quote from their website is promising; Each coin bears an original coinage portrait of a monarch as it appeared during their reign, transposed from genuine historical samples using state-of-the-art technology and faithfully recreated for contemporary coinage.

To me that sounds like they just 3D scanned it and "printed" out a new die with a CNC machine :D

Maybe this sort of technology explains why there are so many new coins now.

Thesemodern  coins are good news for those who have the original coins from way back imo. The RM are now in a position to dilute the modern retro market dry…..and they will…..the engravers series showed them the way…..all depends on mintage if they aren’t to screw the pooch….

If it's like any of the other 10+ coin collector series, then my saving grace could be the availability of a £13 cupronickel bunc :D

Based on percentage increase, my BUNC Black Bull and Red Dragon QBs are by far my best buys for appreciation!

I doubt they will do BUNC option for this

Why do you think that is? Are the first two in the series less desirable than these for some reason?

I've no idea mate. Makes no sense to me. I'm pretty sure I've seen a 1oz silver proof Black Bull on ebay for less than the BUNC. Madness!

There’s no mention of BUNC denominations in the Gazette entry. Just silver and gold like the Great Engravers series.

That's the conclusion I also came too.

I'll give it a miss.

I just checked the proclamation for the first two tudor beasts for reference and they explicitly mention cupro-nickel coins. For some reason I thought they didn't, so it looks like the lack of that on the monarchs entry does indeed suggest there will be no buncs! :(

Yeah the Gazette entries are never wrong or missing accurate details.

The fact is, for most of us, this might be the only way to ever get coins with portraits of these monarchs.

I wish they’d have done these in 1 Oz gold and released just one coin a year as I would’ve loved to have a collection in (relatively affordable!) gold.

I can see myself going for the 2 Oz silver though. Why not? There are worse ranges out there, and none of them really interest me.

Couldn't agree more with regards to 1oz gold.

I don't normally get involved with the proof series, although I did jump on the Tudor Beast bandwagon.

An entry level 2oz silver at likely circa £200 a time doesn't appeal to me personally.

I think it will be a popular choice though.
