Harrington & Byrne 2022 bullion sovereign offer

If people don't want to be contacted I don't see why you're buying from them when they are clearly taking a financial hit to gather leads for subsequent sales. Think it's akin to trying a bunch of tasters at the supermarket with not intention of buying.

However, I do find it strange that a proof specialist opens with a bullion offering. I hope the sovereign doesn't show up in a branded envelope, that would be quite annoying.

I think what most people are objecting to is being contacted in ways - and for purposes - they've explicitly opted out of.

Selling something that is attractively cheap is not a valid excuse to break data protection law, and it immediately makes me question whether I would want to buy from them again if this is how they respect their obligations under the GDPR.

But let's face it, if it's cheap enough who wouldn't take a punt? :D

I see. I hope they're not breaking GDPR, it'd be a costly mistake, they'd be better off giving the sov's away for free.

I'm not sure really, they could reasonably claim the call was to let me know about my order (which it was, before they broke out into their carefully rehearsed sales pitch).

It's too minor to worry about (it didn't really bother me) but it still felt a bit sneaky. It wouldn't put me off buying another one at that price!

I think my error was they have three boxes to tick and a paragraph to read about it. Might be worth checking you have the correct boxes ticked for no postal marketing!

My only frustration was the logo on the outside of the envelope. I'd not be irate with cheap sov offers and pleasant conversations with polite sales people.

Happy days, Just ordered the 2022 Sov over the phone, easy peezy lemon squeezy.

The account manager was trying very very hard to hard sell the proof coins. He also confidently told me that a 2012 bullion sov hasnt held its price and was going for £304, so I asked him wheres that then as I would like to buy a few. He didnt find it funny.

hey-ho, look forward to receiving it in Jan.

Good luck everyone

£304... sign me up!!!

I suspect the Gentleman was either confused or should be running for election;)

That's my favourite part off shopping though 🤣

Leave with a full stomach and only half the normal bill!

re your unwelcome calls coming from a Bournemouth phone number?

Is the swanky Mayfair address just for show?

Yes Bournmouth, a girl called Pauline, pleasant enough and tried to sell proofs but was not too pushy, she took no for an answer, eventually!

Does anyone else think that this is a bit odd that they are selling them at £319 now given that spot price for a sovereign right now is £316.85.

Imagine if spot price rose in the next month and they were sending them out under spot price. It wouldn’t have to rise that much for these to be arriving through letter boxes under spot. 😆

17, Hanover Square is H&Bs registered address, an office block with numerous virtual offices rented out, by the looks of it. Sounds 'swanky' but that's all!

Still waiting for my call, and wondering what they are asking for the 'Proof' 2022 sovereign?

Agree to a point but I'm sure they have purchased a large order at an agreed price. In theory they cant loose.

The initial advert was in the national press which suggests that they are targeting the general public not discerning members of TSF! 😃 'Loss leaders' like these are fairly typical I believe. They surely would have calculated potential losses if any, but also gains from those who might purchase additional coinage?  I'm sure they are aware that many will take the sovereign and run, but may not have taken into account how obstinate Forum members can be....😠

If they know their numbers and have a typical lifetime customer value it could be good business even if one coin is a loss leader or only breaking even, after taking into consideration the fixed costs.

Purely made up numbers but say it's effectively costing them £5 to send us our bullion sovs but they make £200 profit off an upsell and 1 in 20 take the upsell then the model would be profitable... That's without considering reoccurring purchases etc maybe between us SF members less take the upsell but maybe general punters from the press advert are less clued up are more likely to take an upsell and a fancy box etc

Why are people giving them their real phone number?

I'm not and never do - I have an old Galaxy 7 which I stuck a PAYG sim card into for people like this and it just sits on my study desk so I can be selective which calls I receive I actually answer.

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.

With the usual cost of special delivery to the average person (I understand they will have a business rate contract) taken into account the gold is already under spot.
