Got given a coin today, would appreciate any thoughts on value, demand, etc

I got given some coins today by my mum who acquired them when my auntie died. Most of them I think (after a bit of an internet search) are not really worth much, however, this one seems to be different. If anyone who has more knowledge than me would like to give their thoughts then it would be very much appreciated. TIA.

£634 in current melt value by the looks of things, seem to be selling for anywhere from £750-£810 at the moment

Thanks for the reply m8 it's much appreciated. When you talk about the melt value, is that just what a dealer would give you for it? Also, would you know if there's much of a market for this coin? Cheers.

Spot value of the raw metal content, a dealer will generally be within a couple percent either side - sometimes a touch over if the coin is in particularly high demand. Generally not a great option with proof coins but it really depends on how often the particular coin sells elsewhere.

Hi @Dazlenk

The £2 coin series in gold (as far as I can tell) has not ever really excited people and the prices remain just “ok”.  I think this design is actually very attractive!

Whilst most are standard / normal there are a very small number of these that were struck using incorrect die / blank combination meaning that instead of a convex (I believe) football it was flat.

I have not personally seen one of these but I know they exist, so it is worth checking yours on the off chance.

The Euro 96 gold coin. I think it went up in value a tad over the summer and would probably have gone up further if England had beaten Italy.

Euro 96 produced The Three Lions anthem. It's possible this coin could gain more value in future. Maybe if England host an international tournament again, or win one...
