Future of the Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle series

Hi all,

There's a recent release at Perth Mint that caught my eye.

"Each of the coins in this set celebrate American engraver John M. Mercanti’s depictions of the bird across the six years of the Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle coin series."

All coins have a 2021 year-date inscription, so they are restrikes.

But aside from the fact that this is just a gorgeous looking set... what's the meaning of this release for the series?

Was 2021 the final year for the series, or the collaboration with John M. Mercanti will end?

I hope not - i think this is one of the best series of coins to collect. It's not that uncommon for mints to release a set of coins (Perths Kookaburra set, RMs pound coin set etc) as a 'celebration' collection. Usually this is just a way of making some easy money and doesn't signify much.

It's more likely to be a change in designer than an end to the series.... Fingers crossed.

The set was available for about 5 minutes on goldsilver, at 450 Euro, before was sold out.

The price was fair, but I collect the 2oz variants. Hopefully they'll continue the series... we'll find in January I gues.
