Yet another newbie here.

Greetings boys and girls. Looks like I'm another newbie to both this forum and stacking as well. Been contemplating doing so for about a year, but only took the plunge collecting silver in the last few months.

It seems as I've arrived on the scene at the perfect moment price wise. I'm glad I didn't just jump in without a lot of research into suppliers and prices. (The same research that led me to this forum).

With a few monetary bumps on the way, I've already accumulated 40 oz's of various silver coins, for an average of £17.36 an oz. Hope to keep it below that whilst the silver price is steady,

Hopefully you guys can keep me on the straight and narrow.

Welcome HT, a great stack at a great average you have there.

What kind of silver coins do you have, circulated or bullion?

Great to have you on board, hope you enjoy the forum.

Danny Boy, All my silver is of bullion coins and I have a nice mix  of Britannias, Eagles, Maples, and Philharmonics. But I'd also like to get some Pandas and whatever the Aussies are churning out when I get round to them.  I'm aiming to buy 20 coins a month, So if I can get say 40 of each of the main bullion makers every year I'll be happy. Although the numbers will probably have to be adjusted as the prices fluctuate. I'm in this for the long term, retiring in about 15 years hopefully with a nice little nest egg to spend on cheap wine, dirty women and rude songs. So fingers crossed silver is at £1000 an oz in 2030.  :D

Ha ha, yes I'd take £1000/oz in 2030 no problem.

By my calculation you'd have 3640oz by then, so 113kg of silver. I wouldn't fancy lugging that around, but if it's worth over 3.5 million then I think I'd manage.

You have a good mixed stack there, hopefully you won't fall into the collecting trap like some of us have, that gets expensive.

I'd like to make my millions from silver.

Believe me Danny, I know the collecting bug. I currently have stamp collections, autograph collections, comic collections and vintage toy collections stored in various lofts, (thanks to the generosity of my beloved kids and parents letting me use them for storage), around the country. But I'm aiming to get them all sold and converted into gold and silver over the next few years. I'm going to have to be very strict with myself, as I'm running out of time to put together a pot for retirement. I decided that as I'm good at spending, but crap at saving, I'd better spend my money on something that I can "collect" and "save" at the same time. I've decided on strict limits on what I will spend on a coin and that is no more than 4% over spot on gold and no more than 50% over spot on silver. Currently my silver total is bang on that 50%, but I'll be working to get that down to 40% if possible. Obviously Silver coins seem to hold their high premiums quite well on the online auction markets, so i'm hoping that will continue. Whilst there are plenty of places that will buy and sell gold for a few percent above and below spot. You won't get many places giving you the same for silver coins. You throw in VAT as well and silver can be a bit of a risky minefield. But hey, He who dares.......... as Del Boy would say

Welcome Highland Tiger.

I definitely have a split personality when it comes to my silver stack. :-)

1)  A large portion of my personal stack is in 10oz and 1 kilo bars.  It is quite surprising how addictive stacking silver bars can become, especially the vintage cast bars that no longer get minted. Bars are also a great way to build up your overall total ounces of silver.

2) The other portion of my personal stack is rarer more unique semi-numismatic and numismatic coins (bullion and proof).

Maples, American Eagles, Philharmonics, Koalas, Kookaburras, Lunar Coins, SBSS coins tend to be the ones I choose to sell/trade.  They basically help me to stack more bars and unique (rare) silver coins. ;-)

Welcome Highland Tiger.

Sounds like a great idea to swap all your other collections into PMs - although I do think about getting some stamps now and then - such a store of value in such a small size - but I really don't know enough about them to risk it. And I'm not sure how the value would hold up compared to PMs if the financial system reorganised dramatically. I go to a coin / stamp fair most weeks and contemplate getting a penny black - much more expensive than gold per ounce.

I am very grateful to have found precious metal stacking/collecting. It's helped me save so much money that otherwise would have gone who knows where.. And it's fun and strangely satisfying
