2022 Sovereign design revealed?

What month are we talking roughly for new sovs?

It's usually the end of October to the beginning of November for the standard proof sovereigns.

The five coin sets/piedforts/SOTDs are released over the next few months after that.

The mintage for the proof 1sovs is usually well over 10k so I'm not getting up early in the morning for that one there should be plenty for everyone 😀

I know I go on and on about this particular design, but the Merlen 1821 is for me the most, most, most beautiful reverse. Though, of course, it may be tempting fate because the 1821 was the first year of the GIIII period, following quite a long GIII period!!

Could be a beaut for one of the future Great Engravers series, and perhaps a no no for the sovereign as I don't think this would reduce well on a quarter sovereign.....

Reverse!

If EII is not longer our monarch at the point of issue, and there is an intervening period, perhaps with Boris wearing the Crown whilst Charles sorts out which Kilt to put on, then perhaps we could have a coin without a portrait and instead two 'reverses'? Though, Cromwell did put his face on the Commonwealth Coinage, so perhaps Boris will do the same.

The obvious coat of arms to use would be the one that we saw on the 1983 Pound coin - with the words "ONE POUND" replaced with "2022"

That could spark a whole new industry on ebay.

Gold plated round pound coins sold as gold sovereigns. 🙂

I am joking, but it would probably happen in real life.

You have to consider though that this release could be the last for our monarch so it really is special.

That's a trifle pessimistic! 🙂

When do the new Sovereign releases usually come out?

Whenever sales go a bit slow at the Mint. 🙂

If anybody from the Royal Mint reads that it might give them the bright idea of "Sovereign of the Month", perhaps with a privy mark denoting the month.

Could also be a zodiac series, and if you combined them, that would mean at least 24 new different sovereign varieties every year, multiplied by the 5 sizes, then add piedforts, struck on the day, bullion, BU, and proof, piedforts, semi-frosted, reverse-proof. There is almost no limit.

Better get mining then. At least that could mean that my shares in Greatland Gold and Alba Minerals rise again!! Whoooo!!!!

Interesting concept...

A coin with  two backsides.

Yes, but not without reason 😒

She has lost the love of her life and now is consumed with duty to her country, alone.

Her heirs are an embarrassment to her and her government is a ship of fools.

She has been my Queen all of my life, I've pledged allegiance to her in both personal and professional capacities and I won't be doing so with her successor.

IMO, the monarchy will cease with her passing.

(sorry, a bit grim for this thread)

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

"There is no such thing as public money, there is only taxpayers' money"

Let not England forget her precedence of teaching nations how to live.

Royal Mint - please note new coin ideas:

The End of a Dynasty

The End of British Monarchy

The Unroyal Mint

The Last Coins Ever with the Queen's (or King's) Head

Struck Down on the Day

Republic of Great Britain...

...more suggestions invited.

If the RM use any of  these, do you think we could get "Royalties", or would they cease to be?

The RM know we all will be queuing up to buy every single 2022 Sovereign we can afford to buy!

With all the hype and venality that accompanies RM releases I would prefer to save my money and buy a young head Victoria shield back. The quality of modern sovereigns are not the same as earlier ones IMO.

That's a good point, all these new releases at £500+ make 19th century coins seem a bit if a steal in their lovely gold colour...

Ah c**p, I just thought of what Charles' effigy will look like on a sov...😳

Each to their own, I have quite a good range of young heads right through to the modern collectables.  If you don't like the new stuff then just let everyone else snap them up when they come out.  I've been begging for a modern shield back it would be great if they reused JBM original reverse dies.  The 2002 was a very poor attempt at a modern SB.
