2022 Sovereign design revealed?

193 pages on this thread so far and I confess that I haven’t frequented TSF enough to read them all, but I recall comparisons were made between the slow pick-up rate of sales of the popular 1989 sovereign and the same thing happening with the 2022 memorial sovereign (arriving in 2023, the cheek of it).

Although perhaps like the majority of us I didn’t collect coins in 1989, let alone dream of one day owning gold, back then who had the internet? I’d hazard a guess that Royal Mint’s marketing came down to a mailshot to previous customers and adverts in newspapers and magazines, hence the slow pick-up rate of the 1989 sovereign. Nowadays we can access coin websites galore and base our buying decisions not just on coin designs, mintages and affordability etc, but also through valued opinions and feedback from countless coin collectors and dealers (such as @LawrenceChard) on our wonderful Forum.

Maybe we shouldn’t compare 1989 sov sales with memorial sov sales? I don’t doubt the 2022 will be popular though, despite the mintages.

Had a SUPER cheeky email from the Royal Mint + Royal Mail earlier.

Imagine my disgust when it was just the Silver 50p Charles III proof being despatched.

Got all oiled up nothing.

The piedfort went almost a week ago but the sovereign must've went over night lol

I wasn't sure when the piedfort went, but was surprised to see the sov gone, yet the half still there, considering the last stock count posted here was around 3300 full sovs, and 340 half sovereigns

It’s not implausible that a dealer has purchased the remaining lot of Sovereigns.

Just because there were fewer Half-sovs left doesn’t necessarily mean they should’ve sold out first.

Most likely been kept and will be put into kits moving forward. RM have told us the high mintage and people still bought them so it would be silly of them not to produce them from a business standpoint.

That is also a possibility. Maybe a set with the 2023 Coronation Sovereign. Anything is possible.

Does that mean a floor is in now on the prices ? If a dealer bought the remainder, no way will they  flood the market. If RM “bought” them for a later “special” set release, we should know when the coronation proofs come out perhaps (although personally, I doubt they would have “bought the while lot…3,000 is a lot of “special” sets even for the RM)….or maybe Harry bought them as a prezzie for Megsy baby…..Time will tell….added three  bullion 2022  double sovs today either way….

Or the mint just took them offline and cancelled another minting run? Or they taking bets, how many tsf members will get a heart attack, if the memorial Sov is no longer available.

Just spoke to the mint to see where my piedfort is and my brothers 1st Harry Potter 50p. They said that they are due to be minted on the 23rd of December so should have them early to mid January. The 2nd Harry Potter 50p isn't being minted until January some time.

You honestly think any of us would be in high performance mode on the 23rd December?

The Royal mint staff with either be focused on polishing Charlie's earlobes or thinking about opening the same fooking LYNX set they got last year.
