Where is the best place to sell gold coins?

I've only just bought my first couple of gold coins about 1 month ago but unfortunately a couple of huge unexpected bills (new boiler at home and a snapped cam belt on the car) means I need to sell them already. Really annoying I know but that’s life I guess.

So where’s the best place to sell gold coins? Should I stick them on Ebay, sell to a local pawn broker or to an online bullion dealer such as Bullion by Post?

pornbrokers and bullion by post will give you less than spot price, avoid this path.. try here, they'll go quickly

Local pawn broker - sure if you are happy to get about a third less than intrinsic.

ebay - sucks! - too many dodgy buyers and sellers.

BbP? If they happen to be down the road from you maybe, but @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer have been around for much longer, and almost always pay better prices.

Ebay is nothing but hassel too many jokers, dreamers, and crooks.  There's little or nothing to protect the seller, their charges combined with PayPal charges are very expensive.  Speaking from personal experience.

First rule of gold stacking: Never buy gold unless you have an emergency fund of at least 3-6 months expenses. Otherwise, I guarantee the time to 'forcibly sell' your gold will be the worst time possible. It's weird like that.

Second rule of gold stacking: Never buy gold unless you have worked out an exit strategy. Who, where, how. 

Lucky for you, you're here already. Put them up for sale here and you'll be alright (but learn the first two rules of stacking 😉).

Can’t think of a better place to sell them than right here on the forum.

Have a look at the trading section and get a feel for the prices. You should expect to get more than a dealer would offer you but less than the likes of eBay.

My experience is that if you want an almost instant sale offer your gold on this forum for spot price.
That also depends on the coins of course and if 22ct - 24ct

I found selling to HGM the quickest alternative and received money in the bank on the same day they received the gold.
Generally you can expect 97% or maybe a little better and you can get an estimate / quote on-line.

If popular gold coins like sovereigns etc you could ask 2-3% over spot and maybe catch a buyer in 24 hours.
Any higher and its hit and miss I'm afraid.

As you are a new member you will most likely be asked to ship your gold before receiving payment and if so only sell to reputable members who could be trusted.
Taking into account this fact and that you NEED to sell, if you cannot trust the forum buyer(s), then on this occasion sell to the main dealers - HGM, Chards, BbP and avoid the hurdles & worries.

As others have said people should avoid putting themselves into a financial vulnerability where an emergency forces a sale of PMs - lesson learned !!

Forum would be my first option for bullion grade coins.

Ebay would be my very very last option. 

For numismatic coins, Auction.
