I just came across this old post, and wondered what subsequent discussion there were, and what was the outcome?

I was aware of the post which immediately followed it in the Photos Only section:

But I had expected a long thread.

You’ve got me again! It’s been a long day the latter.

I am slightly pedantic, but I believe it is a good thing in the right place.

When we (Chards) created our stock database, somebody created a category "Half Proof Sovereigns", instead of "Proof Half Sovereigns", Grrrr!

I agree your sense of humour does make me laugh almost nightly on here, anybody’s a victim.

Although Victoria does have a veil on this obverse, it is normally called a Jubilee head or portrait rather than "veiled".

The old head portrait, used from 1893 to 1901, is commonly known as widow head, or veiled head.

There is an argument that using veiled head for either type should be avoided as it could cause confusion, although...

It could be considered confusing to call the old head a widow head, as Prince Albert died in 1861, so arguably many young heads and jubilee heads could also be called widow heads.

Another reason not to beat yourself up about "veiled" heads:

The Royal Mint don't know either, and they have been around for 1100 years according to their P.R.

Thank you all for the many likes. And the most beautiful thing about this cast silver is that you can touch it so beautifully, it's a real hand-pleaser. Have a pleasant Sunday and greetings from Maxe.

Hello all,

today I got all my gold out of storage, let me know what you think 6E9FAA38-F58F-4400-B373-15F489E9378C.thumb.jpeg.41d8bbd8913030039736d747ed8b4b9b.jpeg

I also made a YouTube video going through each item here https://youtu.be/95AtRKuHL78

It's a nice collection. I only find it a little bit strange to see those small bars in those round capsules. Just a pity that I can not see the 2 coins that are in tne boxes, they will be specials ...

Thank you. The 1g bars arrived in the capsules when I bought them so just ended up keeping them like that lol. Watch the YouTube video I attached to see the coins in the boxes 🤩

Does 1862 trump 1863, or is it the other way round?

 the reverse:

People sometimes ask why an Italian coin has a Swiss red cross on it.

Why does it? 🙋‍♂️

We are supposed to comment in this section, not the photos only (I only know because I used to do it wrong).

It was originally part of the arms of the house of Savoie or Savioa, established in 1003, but the Savoyard cross is not the same as the Swiss one. Victor Emanuel (Vittorio Emanuale) II of Sardinia became the first King of Italy in 1861.

Crosses were an obvious and important part of Heraldry which developed in medieval times, mainly based on a Chistian cross. With so many noble houses incorporating a cross, many were bound to have similarities.

Here is an example of the difference, on a 1922 Swiss 20 Francs:

1922switzerlandGold20Francreversecrop.thumb.jpg.11fc07b965357aa2ef70e453a63a5de3.jpg

The Swiss cross is short and square, occupying the centre of the flag or shield, while the Savoy and therefore the Italian one extends to the edges, so is often wider than it is high.

There may just be some other obscure connection, but it was all before my time. 😎

Hello dear silver friends,

In all the years of collecting one wonders where to put all the coins.

all the coins. As an alternative I have decided on sturdy shoe boxes and other

boxes, both large and small, what do you think?

Have a nice Sunday to all of you. Greetings from Maxe.

Hallo liebe Silberfreunde,

In all den Jahren des Sammelns fragt man sich, wo man all die Münzen hinlegt.

Als Alternative habe ich mich für stabile Schuhkartons und andere entschieden

Kartons, groß und klein, was denkst du?

Euch allen einen schönen Sonntag. Grüße von Max.

Maybe you can make some follow up postings with putting the content of box by box on a table ?

Beeindruckende Sammlung!

Vielleicht können Sie nachfolgende Postings erstellen, indem Sie den Inhalt von Box für Box auf einen Tisch legen?

I have already shown a lot of it in pictures and don't want to keep repeating myself. But a little will still go in the future.
