Claiming back VAT on gold

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow stackers/collectors,

I did buy gold coins from Europe for which I am obliged (UPS fault) to pay VAT. My question is any of you had reclaim VAT back from HMRC? How easy/hard was it to do so? Any link to paperwork?

Thanks, very much appreciated

Border Force VAT reclaim centre in Coventry.
Fill out their form on-line and you will get a refund if the commercial invoice shows gold coins.
Normally takes about 3 - 4 weeks for a response.

Cheers, hopefully, it won't take too long and won't be too complicated

Hello,

I had similar issue with Fedex,  but when importing gold bars - they cleared goods wrongly and had to pay VAT. For future shipments I want to advice Fedex how to clear goods properly. Does anyone knows what commodity code should be used for "fine gold bars" - I believe it is different than for coins? Any ideas?

Isn't it just one for "investment gold"?

I was considering ordering some gold coins from EU just doing some research into this too cheers

I've recently purchased from EMK, postage was €9.95 up to £500 order. Was dispatched through DHL, delivered with parcelforce. No surprise VAT or handling charges 👌🏽
