Interesting die-crack on this 1915 London Mint sovereign:

At least I think it's a die crack, but it is quite unusual. Most of the die cracks I see are on Victorian shield sovereigns, although I probably do not examine George V ones so closely.

This crack is not quite concentric with the rim and edge. It also has some small blobs on it, and it seems to veer inwards through the horse's tail.

I might be keeping this coin in our "Museum" because this die crack intrigues me.

That’s mentle!! I almost cried parting with £315 for a half.... you’ve pretty much got a decent family size car parked there!!

Unbelievable collection and just look at those beauties shine.

Off strike 1957 (with what looks to be coarser graining?) - probable fake?

fake?

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

I remember seeing one or two of these holders when younger, no longer used, stuck in the back of draws. It’s difficult to understand now how sovereigns and halves etc. we’re just everyday coins for some lucky people and handled accordingly. Probably being in these helped keep the coins in reasonable condition.
