Sovereign Proof Sets?

Thinking of getting a proof set or two, yet are they worth it?

I'm not talking about 'flipping' in a couple of weeks/months but over a few years. Of course price will depend, to a degree on the spot price, but how much?

Over to you lot, and type about this for a bit.🙂

"Worth" is a relative, subjective and personal assessment. Proof sets have been discussed and sold on this forum for many years.

I think you've been around on here long enough to be able to make a personal assessment by now😉

My favorite is the 5 - coin set 2009. It goes back to the original designs and die engravings by Pistrucci.

You thinking 2017?  2009 was quarter sov release and 1st 5 coin set.

Think I’d pick 1989 as my favourite proof set.  Closely followed by 2017 which is lovely.

@trozau is right, the 2009 uses the original Pistrucci dies and was the 1st time the full sovereign was struck without the streamer at the back of the helmet for many years

The larger sets that include the £5 are definitely worth buying IMO, IF you can get them cheaply enough.

The graded £5 coins are very popular these days, especially 70's of course😉

Like these?

My only 2  sets:  The 1982 set seems to be  rare as well, bur can't think why - perhaps the Falklands war? Sold by the RM for £1100 and the '89 for £1150! but initially sold for a lot less on the secondary market.

Those were the days.
