Last year the reverse proof 2 coin silver version was very popular at a mintage of 700, this year the mintage is 500 which pushed me to buy a 2 coin set.

The only other one I was considering was the 1/4 oz platinum proof which I made a good profit on last year - mintage of 150 is the same this year.

The problem is, the design is not as pretty for me and so I will be giving the platinum a miss.

Not a fan of the design. The Lion looks like a bloke in a costume and Britannia looks like she is sat on something rather uncomfortable.

I agree it looks weird but I think that was by design to "reflect modern Britain".

I wanted a gold one, but felt the 1/4oz is too small to appreciate that design and the sets are too messy for my liking. Gave it a pass.

The Coin Connection has the single 1oz silver on special.

Think the design if great personally. Very different. Given the mintages think this could do ok. 2oz gold you be my buy, but it's sold out and can't afford it lol so no worries here

I am not sure I like the rendering of Britannia on this one.  Somewhat angular features.

But its horses for courses and I am sure some will love them!

Yes indeed angular, she looks a bit like a man. But.. again, maybe this was the idea??!

The designers PJ Lynch I believe - some examples of his work on his website.

On reflection, the side view of Britannia's face looks a little like the depiction of females in Pharonic Egypt paintings.

Equally, there are echoes to me of the first appearance of a black woman on US coinage.  I wonder if that was part of the inspiration for this coin.

I managed to get the lower mintage 2oz gold. No idea how I totally missed this released even though I joked about it being released on a Thursday.

Any one knows why there are two designs for the 2oz gold? The other one should be "exclusive" but has a higher mintage and price!

I wondered this myself!! I didn’t even see the higher mintage one as I was using my mobile and these didn’t show up 🤷‍♂️

The lips of the woman (in the side portrait) seems quite thick. Most caucasian ladies would kill to have lips like that.

The right hand (in the second design) seems quite long... for her being able to reach the lion like that.

Must be a very modern design.... she is using Botox

I think the new 2oz premium versions could do well, there's a lot of firsts there. Have ordered the silver anyway so will see!

Agreed I've gone for 2Oz premium silver for the same reason and i noticed a lot of the premium lower mintages have already gone  - most of the premium stock on coin connection has gone too.  My preference in designs is the Premium version anyway - although I think the labelling those as premium when the actual mintage numbers are higher is a bit odd!

I might get the 1 oz of the other version from coin connection but not sure if its such a good buy?

I don't like it.

Can't Britannia be left alone? That is not Britannia.

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

"There is no such thing as public money, there is only taxpayers' money"

Let not England forget her precedence of teaching nations how to live.

I was looking forward to doing the Royal Mint tour and striking my own silver Britannia this year, but that design is terrible, Britannia looks like Lurch off of the Adams family.

The premium version looks way better, but for me still not as good as some of the previous years.
