Disappointing evening!

So I started on my new venture tonight to make my first bar and it was an absolute mare.

The cheap furnace I bought from technical supermarket didn’t even have the power to melt 31g of fine silver. I even left it running for 2 hours with no luck.

I guess the moral of the story is buy cheap, buy twice!

Now I need to go through and complain hoping I can get a swift refund. If not a bank charge back it is!

This isn’t a failure, it’s the beginning and can’t wait to make my own bars :)

@BackyardBullionplease don’t laugh at this 😂😂

That must be really frustrating! Sorry to hear that I hope you get sorted!

Cheers @HerefordBullyun frustrating indeed.

Now just looking at the best way to start again.. buy a decent blow torch and start slow or go all out and buy a £250 furnace..

If you pack me full of beans and sprouts for a day or so - you wouldnt need a furnace!

Must have just been a faulty furnace, they are under warranty and you will have no problems getting help with it from them, they have always been really good.

I would personally recommend the next sized furnace up, the one you have seems to be the smallest model and I have found the next size up R9D-33 I think it is called, to be the most efficient of all their furnaces

My best advice would be to ring them. You will have to ship it back to them, they will look it over and advise from there.

Sometimes it happens that a piece of kit is damaged en-route, but considering these furnaces are used on average about 20 hours per week for me they are very reliable by my standards.

I actually have multiple furnaces which I alternate back to back if needed. This allows me to literally be pouring silver all day if needed without having one furnace on all the time. Staggering them helps keep their life spans up

Frustrating I know... Technical Supermarket are based in Barking (you are from Essex right?) and we have several of their products and always found them to be very good if issues arise. We had one where it wouldn't reach temperature and they changed the chamber straight away (in a day). Speak to them as they have always proven to be accommodating for me. As @BackyardBullion says I also would recommend going to the 33oz one which is not much more and been very stable for us.

Thanks everyone!

I got in touch with Technical Supermarket and they refunded me right away as they didn’t have a replacement. So in turn I have bough the bigger temperature controlled R9D-33 from them. They and @BackyardBullionboth recommended this model so it should be a good one.

I will keep you all posted!

In all I have had a good experience with Technical Supermarket.

Excellent news. Did you speak to Yossef? He's a great guy and very accommodating and they do provide excellent sales support
