Daft question, sorry - Do stackers cut their own hair??

Recommended Posts

As my one day off for the week tomorrow, enjoying a couple of beers at home this evening

For some weird reason, it has came into my head. Sorry for the daft questions

Do stackers cut their own hair??

  • Own a set of clippers?
  • Get their partner to give them a short back and sides?
  • Shave your own head down to the bones themselves
  • Begrudge paying someone 1/2oz of silver to chop your locks
  • Do theirs and kids but let the wife treat themselves to a shampoo and set with money saved

I do my own and have no shame about it, a tenner is better in my pocket than someone elses.

No1 clipper shave down to uniform length, then let it grow, rinse and repeat.

Owned a set of clippers since my early 20s. Can do a bang on job myself

Must have saved £1,000s over the years

Is thriftiness and frugality part of being a stacker ??

Discussions welcome

Yes I have for the last 7 years at least, missus clips it.

Had to buy another pair of clippers last year, first set cost £10, this set cost £20 for the same thing = more proof of inflation, this is just the beginning ;)

Am I tight bastad? Yes.

Ahahahahahahahahahaah..... tightwad !

Another self shaver here  , have done so on and off since my teens. Ended up shearing a few mates regularly a number of years ago. Got pretty good at it. Fortunately I only do the one scalping these days , mine !

Likewise must've save £££'s 👍😃

Yep and the kids, I’m starting to master the knack of blending the gap between 2 different shaver settings too. Proves I’ve sat and been observant in the chair.

Wish I’d have done it years ago, the only thing I got wrong big time was the fringe on the kids.😱 To be honest, the first time they were right peeved to put it mildly. The enforced lockdown gave me a second chance and I’ve passed the test now.

Actually wish I’d done it years ago. Definitely a skill but one with practice you can easily get to a reasonable standard. I’ve saved a couple of hundred now on mine and the enlarged family; plus not the same health hazard at present.

To be honest I’m just thinking about it now from an investment perspective, which wasn’t my first motive b.t.w. Reckon I’d be hard pressed to think of a better rate of return I’m going to get on the £30 something I paid.

Not bad value for 9 combs, scissors and a few other bits and an exponential return 😂

i have not been to the hairdressers / barbers for a long time - i don't remember when i last went. In the last 10 years it would likely be less than fingers on the one hand.

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.
A tyranny relies on propaganda and force. Once the propaganda fails all that's left is force.

Ha! I'm not surprised all the likely suspects came forth! :D

I've worn my hair No.2/No.1 all my adult life. The clippers were once wired but now are all cordless so I do it in the garden.

I used to take care of myself but since married, my wife finishes me off.

Useful for both hair and beard!

It's been a blessing since lockdown I admit but in SE Asia, it makes sense to go to a local barber- you can get a haircut, cut-throat shave, ears and nose trimmed and a head massage for about $3.

Keeps the economy alive!

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

I did my own a couple of times in the first lockdown, I don't have much hair so it only needs doing every 6 weeks or so. But a new Turkish barber opened up locally early last year, so I go to him now. (when open). Number 1 all over, eyebrows trimmed, ear hair burnt off with the flaming cotton bud, hair(well scalp), washed and dried, and a generous spray of the latest aftershave all for £5, (always tip £2 extra). Oh and you get one free hair cut after 10 cuts, (stamps your card)

Superb value and I'm helping to keep a local business open.

It's frightening how well you know me !  😄

A 7mm setting on the clipper is all I need

I have been my own hairdresser for over a decade.

Saves me both time and money without having to visit the barbers. 😁 👍

I've been cutting my own hair with clippers for 20 years now. Got fed up going to the barber who knew my dad as he came out with the exact same patter everytime he saw me. 'Hello, how's your dad, I used to work with him in the seventies, is he keeping well?' You couldn't talk about anything else with him. It was as if he was on a continuous loop. Still, it's saved me a fortune as I always felt obliged to tip.

I got my own set of clippers and started doing my own hair a few months before the first lockdown. Decent timing. It saves money and the faff of having to find time to get to the barbers.

I haven't had anyone openly mocking my hair since I started doing it myself, so that's good enough for me!
