Although there is no import duty to pay, apparently according to the UK Gov trade tariff site, gold coins have a classification of 7112910000 and are subject to 20% vat at the point of importation. Which I think is a bit rough considering gold is VAT free when bought within in the UK.

I suppose one could always buy “holiday souvenirs” when one is in foreign parts and then lie, although I didn’t say that😜

Hi everyone . Just logged in and saw your replies.

I am happy to ship to Steve and combine your coins.

I sent some coins this week without any problem.

The only problem you should have is what grade the sovereigns will get if you send them for grading, after you remove the ink.  :P

On a serious note how would you go about removing the ink?

Acetone on a soft cloth should remove it, or just soak the coin in it and gently swish it around.  We used it all the time in the lab to remove permanent marker from glassware and metalware.  Common or garden nail varnish remover is usually made from a mixture of acetone and water, so just raid the Mrs makeup drawer ;).

Dissolve it, precipitate it, melt it, electrolyse it and pour yourself a stash worthy of a king!  Then bury the fecker under a tree :)
