Hi guys,

Is it possible to sell Gold coins to people face to face (Getting it authentication in any gold shop so they can check the cash + gold is real).

Anyone done it before? If so, how much people are usually pay according to the spot price?

Since companies like Apmex etc only charge about 4% over the spot price I assume if you offer the gold coins for the spot price people would buy easily?

Would like to know what is the safest process for both sides to get this done.

Thanks a lot!

I have sold in person to a few people but the sum was not huge amounts so I felt comfortable.

I would advise not to sell in person unless you know them and have established trust.

Agree. That’s why building relationships on TSF fundamental over time. :)

Of course it's possible to sell in person, why wouldn't it?

I have sold a Sovereign, privately - in person, not online - once, to a friend. (The reason was, I got the wrong type of Sovereign from a company and replaced it with the one I wanted, thus needed to get rid of the wrong Sovereign. Both were bullion.)

If it's a stranger you are selling to in person, obviously you need to be careful and should only meet where there are a lot of people, so you can't be robbed - in a well visited cafe, for example. Well, that would have been my advice before the fakedemic. Not sure how to handle it, now.

ive done a few gold sales locally over the years and used a local casino's bar/lounge area to meet in person

Open access to all these days, no memberships needed

Can do the deal comfortably over coffee/pint & a little chat

The place is suitably big to do you deal reasonably anonymously

Reassurance you have cameras all over the place, door staff/security for both parties, doesn't look out of place counting a handful of notes out on a table

Sold many times in person to people that I did not meet before but the vast majority of the time the buyer had already paid and wanted to collect items because of locality. I have always provided the address of my local post office as the meeting place and my mobile number. No issues selling in person provided buyer has a good reputation on the forum/Facebook group in a public place covered by CCTV.

I haven't but I know how to reduce the risk send them a picture of your driving license they do the same pass said picture onto someone you trust simple (just make sure it's their driving license) scammers won't like the idea of their licence being flashed in front of the old bill if anything happens

I bought some 1g bars & 5g in person from someone a few years ago. It was Gumtree but it was a guy who had been a collector for years & he wanted to exit gold & enjoy his £. He was very nice & I bought my first 32g of gold. He sold me another 35g a month later.
I also bought 2oz of Rhodium again on Gumtree up North. We met on a train platform. £850 for one or £1650 for two. We you know how that story ends with the huge surge since q4 2019. I sold one & gave one as a present.
I met a Forum member in 2019 & bought an exquisite set of sovereigns. I had no doubt they were genuine. Beautiful pieces

I also met a member for a pt one ounce. Nice to meet people with matching interests

good luck to all & anyone in Scotland want to meet

Just keep in mind that even if you do end up meeting someone in a public setting, there is always the possibility that they can follow you afterwards to find out where you live.  I would take some very basic extra measures to make it extremely difficult/inconvenient for anyone to do so.
