Created a separate thread for this

In the Una & Lion thread i was following the live auction results from yesterday from the big Monaco coin auction

Now everything is finished, you can see the realised prices

Absolutely no shortage of buyers or high prices being achieved yesterday

https://www.biddr.com/auctions/mdcmonaco/browse?a=1285&o=pd

x100+ sales of hammer price of coins 25,000 euros - 820,000 euros

These were all the Great Britain sales

https://www.biddr.com/auctions/mdcmonaco/browse?a=1285&c=27066&o=pd

So many gorgeous pieces

For those stacking for retirement, many years to come.

Rather than stacking bullion coins, could just having ultra high ends coins be a better way forward to maximise your returns.

Spot price of gold doesn't even matter when dealing with the rarest of the rare coins

Any thoughts or opinions guys ??

Lot 830 seems affordable 😮

As a collector of Napoleonic coins (France, Italy etc) this is always one of the auctions I wait for each year and try and save funds for - the prices were amazing and I was terrified of hitting the bid button by mistake, I did think I would try it at one point and see if my credit limit meant that the bid wouldn't be accepted:lol:. The catalogues are great but you need very strong book shelves. The gold EID MAR, also yesterday at ROMA XX, hammered at £2.7million so maybe these lots were bargains!

It will be no surprise that all the lots I bid one eventually went over my limit and this is the first year where I have ended up with nothing and I am already kicking myself for not going higher on one lot :(

The Gadoury sale today looks a little more realistic as the grades are a bit lower and the same for Palombo which is now in December, Heritage now looks cheap:lol:

Anyone here get the classic British gold??????

No pun intended but I think you’re spot on with the points you’ve raised. The majority of investors probably build their stack on a gradual basis as and when funds allow, with a careful eye on spot price as well. I’m guessing the majority will not have a large lump sum available to fund the cost of a ultra high end coin without changing strategy and selling off most or all of the stack first to acquire the funds to buy one.

Whilst the modern Royal Mint 2oz gold proof Una and the Alderney 1oz version obviously can’t compete with the 1839 original, they’re proving to fit the bill and show high end realised or potential profits for those owners prepared to hang onto them. The top music legends gold coins are also doing extremely well as you know. So I think you can still maximise your returns on the top modern coins as well as the rarest of rare ones.

Get rich quick or get rich slower? Let’s hope we just get rich!  Good topic Paul.

Wow. Having already chipped in with my tuppence worth, I’ve now clicked the link and have to say that they’re the Big Daddy of coins.

I’d love to see the reverse design of the William IV 1831 Quintuple (lot 805) as the next coin in the RM Great Engravers series but I can’t see them following up William Wyon’s Una with a 2nd coin from the same designer.
