Am looking to buy a few Coins of England Pre-Decimal and hoping the forum can save me some leg work

I’ve pre ordered the spink Coins of England 2021 Pre-Decimal book

But if anyone has information on the best places to buy such coins, websites for references and all the etcs that be great ?

I get a lot of the silver predecimal, including rare ones and high grades. If you have a list in mind I can go through my existing inventory and try and hook you up. In general I am much cheaper than eBay or coin shops.

Nice one !! will definitely get back to you on this

just got to work out where to start !

if you have any ideas as to some good entry coins to start this with then please feel free to send some suggestions

overall plan is to have one good coin from each king/queen from the start of monarchs being shown on coins which I believe to be Alfred , but this strategy could change just as my initial strategy did when I first started in sovereigns 😆

Most dealers in the UK will have a range of British coinage in stock although not all years and usually in lower grades with some high grade examples amongst them, particularly for the more recent years (George V and VI and Elizabeth II). If you are after high grade examples then some dealers specialise in this or auctions would be the best bet, with a lot available from the main US auctions than from those in the UK, and just to complicate matters there seems to quite a bit of high grade British coinage appearing at Japanese auctions lately!

I had a similar plan to yours when I rekindled my interest in collecting UK pre-decimal coins about six years ago (although I only went back to Charles II, rather than Alfred - good luck!)

I have a couple of hundred coins: at least one of each main denomination from the quarter-farthing to the crown, and at least one of each monarch from Charles II to Elizabeth II excluding Edward VIII on the grounds of cost and availability 😁

The best sites I tended to buy from most recently were Colin Cooke and The Coin King.  I have also bought from Saltford Coins, Penny Crown Coins, RP Coins and a couple of others that I won't recommend.

I have a few spares that would potentially be for sale if you're interested - depends whether you're looking for 'an example' or 'a high grade example'?  My spares are mostly (but not all) low to mid grades but they include some interesting/scarce stuff - e.g. 1797 cartwheel penny (sold to me as AVF), 1849 godless florin (sold to me as NEF but I would say lower), 1852 gothic florin (approaching EF), 1932 florin (about Fine but nice for the grade) and a few 19th century shillings including an 1821.
