beware Hatton Garden website photos

Hatton Garden metal website showed they have one: 1oz Queens Beasts Lion (with 2016 Lion photo) yesterday, and I bought it, the listing web page is gone.  Today, when I received the parcel, and found out they sent me the 2020 Lion, so I rang them ask why. She said the photo was just a reference photo, and it can be a different coin. Therefore, it shows you an expensive coin photo, and sent you a cheaper version of the series. Beware this company!!!! Never buy anything from them. Con.

Yes, I think they need to be precise given the premiums they are now charging. It was different when they only put a few percent on each coin regardless of type. They regularly confuse kangaroos with nuggets in their photos also I have noticed.

That is false advertisement. You can get a full refund

What was the premium for it? If you just want some gold then I'd keep it and be very wary with them in the future.

If you only wanted the 2016 Lion or paid a hefty premium then I'd try and return it. Did you take a screen shot of the page? I think I'll start doing that now.

they just rang me and apologised , and they said they will cover the postage cost and full refund. fair enough.

@isaacyzzz only fair update your original thread to include this information at the top of the thread saying issue is amicably resolved. I have bought Gold from Hatton Garden Metals found them be one of my trusted sources and always resolved any issue fairly.

I agree.

Ok, I'm an HGM fanboy but anyone who thinks they can buy a 2016 QB Lion for spot plus 11% from a dealer is hopeful at best 😀

All's well that ends well.

Very nearly bought a 1/4 oz Falcon this week, got an in stock alert and pictured showed a Griffin so pounced on it. Only distraction saved me, come back and realised description didn't match.  I dont think its intentional, just not their thing to cover the wider range of coins as they focus on high volume sovs and ounces.

This really, including Perth lunars as well.

If it's gold and Australian, it must be a nugget.

They are not sophisticated in their numismatic knowledge. They are essentially bullion dealers. If it looks and tests like gold, it's gold, and they sell it as such.

They have attempted to get clever recently and uplift their prices on coins they perceive as carrying a numismatic premium, but it's a broad brush and generally unsuccessful.

No they are honest but make mistakes. Know this and act accordingly and bargains can be had.

I have ordered a QE Youn Head Sovereign last year and got a 2019 Sovereign.

Very incompetent or - like you say - cons, logically there is no other option. Given they have not replied to my emails, I'm pretty sure what it is. Given your experience on top of that, it's all too obvious. Me too- never again, will I be buying from (or selling to) Hatton Metal Gardens.

I think it is. Otherwise, why does it happen again and again?

Its not hard to get the description of a coin correct, they are after all bullion dealers, how much stock do they handle a day, they should be more knowledgeable than their average Joe customer

Exactly, they have attempted to get clever. There is another word for that, the topic creator has already stated. It's two different pairs of shoes not to have a lot of knowledge about numismatics or not advertising the coin you get. If its from a range of coins, it's not difficult to state that. Other dealers with presumably also little numismatic knowledge are also capable of doing that.

I just want to share my story in here. I know someone think I am silly that is too good to be true (the price I paid).  From my point of view, as a commercial dealers, everything needs to be precise. I do not think it is a simple mistake, why not show a 2020 lion photo and send me a 2016 lion. that is about honesty and trust. I know there are lots of their fans here will not agree what I say.

I have posted my story about Hatton Metal Gardens before, I also got the reaction I must crazy (expressed a bit more politely).

It's clear what they are. Stay away from them!

I'm in no way implying Hatton Garden metals go out of there way to con customers, it probably was an honest mistake.

But when selling £400+ coins on the internet, a bit more due diligence should be used on there part
