Allow for SD and you have approx. 3.8% premium over spot.

A fair price for such a nice chunk of yellow metal - go for it if you can afford it !

If you owned the equivalent in Sovereigns,if you had to sell you could sell one coin at a time, but the bar would have to go regardless of how little you needed.

On the other side of the gold coin,it's a store of wealth regardless of size and if it makes you happy buy it.

It all comes down to personal preference,if in a couple years you don't like it sell it.

Currently £1255.09.  May only be worth £1250 tomorrow.

But seriously though, if you like it go for it.  Can't think of any reason for you not to.  One day I'll get around to buying some bars but I need to finish some coin collections first.

Well - did you buy it?

Soz, been away from computer.

No I resisted buying it, although I did get as far as the checkout... decided in the end I was buying for the look not for the value. Also as helpinghands pointed out, it's actually very small really so probably wouldn't have looked as nice in person.

These are my 100g twins for scale, not a bad size -

I understand the urge to hold gold but I can't for the life of me understand why someone would buy a soul-less bar in preference to a beautiful coin for the same premium. But there again, I'm biased!

Can someone please explain it to me?

I used to fancy holding lots of heavy gold in bar form but I realised it was just vanity and that once the novelty had worn off I would have a piece of metal that I couldn't trust to be real without ultrasound equipment. lol

Now if I had a stack like you see in those old films, you know, the piles of gold ingots in the vault! :P

But that's just greed, a bit like doing the lottery.
